Personalists regards the personhood as the major fundamental notion which gives the meaning to all of the reality and which constitute the supreme value. It carries the inviolable dignity that deserves unconditional respect. Christian teaching on sufferings is based on the idea that all human beings are valuable, and therefore, the need to provide respect and treatment of dignity. As a healthcare professional, I can incorporate this into my daily interaction by showing an explicit duty of respect, benevolence, and care for the patients. I can also achieve it by showing empathy to the patients and their family members as well as enhancing privacy and comfort for the patients to make them feel respected and valued. I can also show ethical personalism as a healthcare professional by respecting the rights of the patients though reliance on the principles of autonomy, benevolence, and human dignity.

Personalism principle holds that all human beings are valuable and that an internal change in part of one provides a dimension for morality. Our will to help him is motivated by the value of a human person, and the disvalue of his sufferings” (Colosi, 2009). The benefits of ethical personalism are that it ensures the patients receive quality care in a way that enhances their healthcare outcome and satisfaction. With ethical personalism, patients can appreciate the respect and value accorded to them by the care providers. Respecting patients’ privacy and autonomy as part of ethical personalism increases the quality of care and promotes meaningful healthcare outcome. As care providers, it is important that we provide the best alternative care for the patients and provide support for their family through respect and value for human dignity.
