In the book, Pa decides to ties the note to a girl who is Celie’s age mate. Pa tends to discriminate against the poor girl who offers the services adamantly. Pa is always pushing the poor girl and continuously barking orders at her. Furthermore, Nettie decides to have a love affair with a man who is described in the book to be elderly. Previously, the older man was married to one wife and three kids. However, sources indicate that the older man murdered the wife. The primary reason for the murder is due to his constant jealousy. However, Celie has a perception of self that the old man I not suitable for and she should instead focus on her education. However, Celie is also discriminated by her husband, Pa with the sole reason behind that he suspects that Celie has winked at a girl. However, this is not the case as Celie has a different phobia towards men. Celie tends to support the marriage between the old man and Nettie with the main reason behind to rescue the young girl from the torture she is currently undergoing in the hands of Pa. Suddenly, Celie is at the menopause stage, and due to this fact, she is unable to conceive more children. 

Mr._ offers a marriage proposal to Nettie, but Pa rejects the marriage proposal. Pa believes that Nettie is too young for marriage and she is concentrating I her school work instead of marital affairs. Furthermore, Pa declines the marriage proposal offer to Nettie due to the reason that Mr._ is involved in a sexual affair with Shug. In the book, Shug is described to be extremely beautiful and trendy. Furthermore, it seems that Mr._ has an acute obsession towards Shug as she continually carries a portrait of Shug’s image on his wallet. Celie raises the fact as she believes that Mr._ is always having dreams about her.

The newly married wife of Pa is believed to be sick. However, it is not clear if the new wife of Pa is either ill or pregnant. Celie decides to give her the medical attention she requires and thus leading to Nettie being told to stay away from Pa’s new wife. However, Pa’s new wife and Nettie realize that Pa has physically abusing Celie. The sexual molestation tends to make Nettie and her new wife develop a phobia towards Pa. Celie decides to offer them protection against their aggressor. Pa decides to boast that she can have Celie if need be but his sole desire is to have Nettie. Pa abuses Celie to be sexually unattractive, and she has lost her virginity. Furthermore, Pa decides to look for all possible means to get rid of Celie. Pa goes an extra mile to offer Mr._ Celie for marriage. As a strategy to protect himself from atrocities he has been committing towards Celie, Pa decides to lie that Celie a perennial liar and she dumb. 

Celie strategies to get married to Mr._ as a means of getting away from the constant abuse of Pa. She also plans on drafting a plan that will see Nettie living with her as their soldier on to look for their escape plan. Celie and Nettie are continually studying schoolbooks as a strategy for building the academic knowledge and skills. Celie vividly recollects the bitter circumstances that led to her dropping out of school. Celie loved school, and it is due to Pa’s ill-doings that led to her dropping out of school. However, Celie believes that her school teacher played an insignificant role in ensuring that she continues with her academics.
