What are the relevant methodological approaches and research products? Why are they important?

Methodology approach is the body of procedures, practices, and rules that are used the people who engage in an inquiry work in a discipline, a set of working methods, a poll for marred by faulty mythology, and the methodology of genetics studies. The main methodological approaches are qualitative research, quantitative research, pragmatic approach to research and participatory approach to research ( Lim, Kim, Heo, & Kim, 2015 ). Primarily, the quantitative research is mainly associated with postpositivist and positivist paradigm; this involves mostly converting and collecting data information into the numerical form for statistical calculations to be useful and also draw conclusions.

The quantitative research, on the other hand, is an approach that is mainly associated with social constructivist paradigm while on the same note emphasizing the socially constructed nature of reality ( Christopherson, Troseth, & Clingerman, 2015 ). It involves analyzing, recording, and also attempting to uncover the broader significance and meaning of human experience and behavior including contradictory emotions, beliefs, and practices. Moreover, the researchers are mainly interested in obtaining rich information that will be generalized into other larger groups.

The pragmatic approach to research which is mainly regarded as mixed methods it involves the using a technique that works the best for the research problem and not getting caught up in philosophical debates on which is the better approach. Importantly, the researchers in this research approach decide themselves the methods, procedures, and techniques that are associated with both the qualitative and quantitative research ( Lim, Kim, Heo, & Kim, 2015 ). Moreover, researchers who engage in advocacy approach feel that the research approaches being used do not advocate or respond to the needs of the vulnerable or marginalized groups.

Research products are the outcome or the expected results from a study or research. They are important as they give the research validity and help design the best research method to get the best results ( Christopherson, Troseth, & Clingerman, 2015 ). The methodological approaches provide the researcher to decide which plan will generate the best outcomes or results for the study.

What are the biomedical informatics practice areas that enable the informatics techniques and platforms? What roles do these areas play?

Biomedical informatics at the field that pursues and studies effective use of biomedical information, knowledge, and data for the scientific problem solving, decision making, and scientific inquiry. Some of the biomedical informatics practice areas that allow informatics techniques and platforms include firstly, literature search tools. This include area such as PubMed that can be used to conduct background research on essential study preparations and hypothesis development ( Lim, Kim, Heo, & Kim, 2015 ). Secondly, electronic health records which can be used when collecting clinical data on research participants. Thirdly, data mining tools, they are used for identifying specific cohorts that are potential studies for research ( Christopherson, Troseth, & Clingerman, 2015 ). Additionally, decision support systems which are used when alerting providers during that point of care that a particular individual is eligible for the clinical trial. Similarly, the computerized physician order entry system that collects information and data that describes the therapies to be delivered to the research participants both for participant tracking and study analyses. They are important as they play the role of interpretation, application to build public health, analysis, data management and collection, and planning and system design.

Why does the conceptual model include an iterative feedback cycle and how does this cycle work?

The conceptual model includes the iterative feedback cycle due to several factors; firstly, in the iterative model, less time is mainly spent on documenting while more time is spent on design. Secondly, the iterative model gives reliable user feedback. Thirdly, the iterative model creates a high-level design of applications ( Lim, Kim, Heo, & Kim, 2015 ). The cycle is simple as it involves repeated steps to come up with the outcome. For instance, creating an unfinished product, then review and improve it, and then iteration until the final product is ready.
