Question 1

As illustrated by the author, the upper class includes individuals sharing common economic interests and a lifestyle. The statement first indicates that the socioeconomic segmentation has existed for many years. During this period, the upper class has maintained its distinct characteristics (Domhoff, 2014). The first characteristic associated with the upper class is their tendency to conglomerate around the same residential areas. Historically, this class of individuals has been associated with urban and suburban areas. Domhoff's second attribute is the equal social status that cuts across members of this social class. They are equal in terms of net worth, possession, and influence. The similar geographical areas and social status compel these individuals to share similar lifestyles. Such characteristics make the upper-class people influential and impactful in their decisions and actions (Domhoff, 2014). They sit on boards, they own shares, and some end up in the political class. The interactions of these members take place within their socioeconomic matrix.

Question 2

The organization that I choose for this section is RAND Corporation. RAND falls under the classification of a think tank with an original focus on national security. RAND has continued to influence policy through research and development. It addresses a wide array of issues affecting Americans ranging from security to education, health, sustainability, and growth. The research is performed on behalf of clients and private grantors. Social security in the United States plays a significant role in the welfare of survivors, old age, and disabled people. RAND has helped in shaping policy through research and innovation. RAND has facilitated research studies that have significantly contributed to the best and acceptable social security practices as a think tank. Most of the decisions and policies are seen in social security are evidence-based and subject of thorough studies and trials that have taken years to complete.
