Social mobility is defined as family, individuals or groups movements within a stratified position. The factors which affect social mobility are race, socioeconomic status, education and gender ( Rytina, 2011). The factors which affect the social mobility can easily be overcome through education and sensitization of the people to appreciate their fellows despite their background race or ethnicity. Others factors such as class are difficult to overcome since they depend on status and education level in the community.
Social stratification "is the hierarchical arrangement of large social groups based on their control over basic resources." I believe that structural functionalist best explains this. Structural functionalist has it that each part of the community is dependent on one another. We need farmers to have food production, we need police for order, and we need teachers for knowledge. These people have to come together to make a complete society which is fully functioning as explained by the structural functionalist ( Kendall, 2013) . Also, we need qualified individual professionally to do professional jobs while we need less skilled individuals to do tasks of their level in the society and this is what causes the social stratification.

Media is underrepresenting women. In most of the magazines, women are not presented as decent people but as thin with perfect hair. They give an impression that this is how women should be and this may not be communicating the truth. Men also suffer same in the Media. They are also represented as aggressive and dominant in most videos and television films which also may not be what is on the ground.
To me, the class has a lot of power while race the least. Those who are in high class are given a lot of power while the ones who do not belong to the dominant race in the society are undermined. Tracing down the history, this is a situation which will change. It will reach a time where race may not matter as people share resources in the society.
