Registered nurses have the option of working in various healthcare settings. Also, it is clear that any practice setting experience changes in the health care climate. There are various entities that are involved in the implementation plus recommendation of the practice changes. The entities are led by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the nursing campaign for action initiatives, the Institute of Medicine (IOM), plus the individual state-based action coalitions. Nurses are expected to always be prepared and conscious of the transformations that happen in the health care settings plus future plans.
The Work of the Robert Wood Foundation Committee Initiative
The RWJF concentrates on demanding health care and health issues that affect the health care system. In 2008 it and IOM worked together for approximately two years to determine the future needs of the nursing profession. The main objective was to outline the important actions that are needed to make sure that nursing was ready to easily move to the future. It was an easy job considering the nurses work in diverse settings such as in the community, long-term settings, acute care settings, and outpatient areas. This was in addition to the fact that nurses have different educational qualifications such as diploma, bachelor’s degree plus associates. Considering all these factors, the committee designed four main messages on the future of nursing as the key to transforming health care as evidence in their report that is known as the “Future of Nursing”.

Key Messages
The report aimed at identifying nurses as being crucial in helping in accessing high quality and affordable health care. The outcome was supported by four main messages that act as a structure of the IOM report recommendations. The first recommendation is for nurses to practice in their field to the full extent of their training and education. The second recommendation indicates the need to have nurses who have attained higher degrees plus competencies. The attainment of higher education needs to be unified. The third recommendation stresses the need for stakeholders to be equal partners in redesigning the future of health care in the United States (US). In other words, nurses need to be part of the solution when it comes to reforming health care. The fourth recommendation includes having better data collection strategies plus improved infrastructure for information to make sure that accurate projections are made. The facts need to be given on a regional and state level. The key messages have influenced nursing leadership, nursing workforce development, nursing practice, and nursing training and education in terms of collecting the necessary data relating to the healthcare workforce. The data then helps in informing the planning process for the changes needed in the nursing profession and the general healthcare system according to the Committee on the RWJF Initiative and the IOM. (2014) .
The Role of State-based Action Coalitions
Coalitions include nursing, businesses, leaders, and other health care personnel. State-based action coalitions have the role of advancing the recommendations of the report. They help in advancing the goals in the IOM report by improving the health care of every American through strengthening the nursing workforce plus the nurse leadership.
Initiatives that the State’s Action Coalition is Working on
Action coalitions in every state aim at campaigning at the regional, state, and local levels. The New York State Coalition (NYSAC)includes a diverse collection of stakeholders that have the responsibility of leveraging nurses to change the health care in NYS through the implementation of the IOM report. The main mission of the state’s action coalition includes providing and facilitating leadership for implementing the recommendations in the IOM report. It aims at improving the experiences of health care and health care costs. Initiatives that are The two main commanded by the state include having an Outreach Committee that concentrates on public speaking, networking, and improving the membership. The next priority is encouraging diversity. The NYSAC also came up with a Diversity Toolkit that aims at facilitating the expansion of the diverse workforce. The action coalition continuously addresses the main recommendation according to the NYSAC (Center for Nursing, 2019). These initiatives are assisting in changing and advancing the nursing profession by making sure that there is quality health care. However, there are barriers to advancement such as scope-of-practice barriers. Nursing advocates in the state overcome the barrier by advocating for nurses to practice to the extent of their training and education. The next barrier is the increased demand from a diverse population. This barrier is often overcome by increasing the diversity level of students to develop a diverse workforce that would meet the demand ( Friberg, 2019) .
