How humans consume entertainment is among the changes that are being witnessed today. Through advances in the production of televisions, it is now possible to view a wide range of content. The situation today stands in sharp contrast to the state of televisions in the past where these devices were only capable of performing basic functions. Today, televisions have incorporated such concepts as space/time shifting. Thanks to integration of these concepts into the design and production of televisions, a significant transformation in the consumption of content is being witnessed.

To understand the effect that space/time shifting has had on television, it is helpful to begin with the definition of this concept. Essentially, space/time shifting is concerned with the ability to view content from any location and at any time (Gibbs, 2016). In the past, television programs were usually scheduled strictly and could only be viewed from bulky television sets. This is no longer the case. Thanks to the development of such devices as tablets and smartphones, individuals are now able to watch television programs from any location and at times that are most convenient for them (Gibbs, 2016). For example, such streaming services as Netflix allow viewers to interact with content from a wide range of devices.

It is true that televisions have undergone tremendous transformation. However, I feel that this is only the beginning of the changes that television will experience. I predict that as we enter the future, space/time shifting will further shape the evolution of television. For instance, I expect that as more people gain access to such devices as tablets, streaming will achieve mainstream status. The implication of this is that more people will be able to transcend time and geographical barriers as they seek to engage with television content. I would encourage the stakeholders in the television industry to continue to invest in new technologies.
