In my state, Texas, the process and elements of grand jury indictments are clear. Texas has the grand jury responsible for charges associated with felony indictments, particularly if sufficient evidence is offered to charge the arrestee. The grand jury issues a “no bill” if it determines inadequate grounds to prosecute the defendant ( Daniel, 2009) . The “no bill” issue refers to inadequate evident to prosecute an arrestee. In the case of “no bill,” the grand jury releases the defendant from custody. A “true bill” is given if the grand jury has sufficient reasons for indictment, in which the arrestee is issues a bond or remains in custody awaiting trial ( Daniel, 2009) . I believe that the grand juries are beneficial to the criminal justice system, although other people believe otherwise. All indictment processes should not be performed by judges. Issues associated with the unjustifiable nature of indictments conducted by grand juries include ignorance of the law concerning felonies by members of the jury, and secrecy employed in determining whether or not to indict a defendant ( Goldstein & Witzel, 2019) . Nonetheless, numerous benefits exist highlighting the contribution of grand jury to a fair criminal justice system. Firstly, if the jury agrees not to proceed with the prosecution, the individual under inquiry cannot even know they were being investigated. Besides, the defendant’s employers, neighbors, and family would not know that the person was under investigation. The second benefit of the system concerns the ability of the grand jury to follow their investigation to a comprehensive conclusion, regardless of obstructions from various government officials and offices such as the president. In this regard, it is difficult for the inquiries headed by grand juries to involve unfairness in indictment.
