Then President Barack Obama passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) into law March 23, 2010. The Act is often abbreviated as Obamacare. The law has facilitated tremendous changes in every aspect of the health care system over the years. The Nursing Workforce Provisions have helped to address the existing problem of nursing shortage. The provisions are established to increase the number of nurses in the healthcare system. Therefore, these provisions have facilitated an increased workforce thereby enhancing improved care for the millions of people in the United States. The number of nurses have been increased through providing loans for nursing students, Funding for National Health Service Corps, has established a Health Care Workforce loan repayment programs for those who wish to practice surgical subspecialty or pediatric medical, a grant program that subsidize training of individuals who are willing to pursue nursing education and practice ( Lathrop & Hodnicki, 2014).

The Health Reform provisions require preparation of more highly skilled nurses who will adequately meet the needs of people with complex health problems. In addition, it fosters the need to create opportunities for nurses to allow them to take part in the redesigning of the ailing health care system. It has reformed the payment programs for nursing through the Pilot and Incentive Payment Program. This program offers incentives to primary and chronic care managements. Additionally, the provisions provides Quality Improvement program that fosters identification of best practices for quality improvements in the delivery of services in health care ( Lathrop & Hodnicki, 2014). Therefore, these provisions offers several benefits to the current nursing practice such as increasing he workforce, providing loans for nurses to receive higher loan amounts from the federal government, and improved quality of services.
