What is your healthcare issue and your proposed solution to the issue?

My healthcare issue is on the impact of e-cigarettes on humans and its contribution to lung problems among the youth in the population. The study reveals the health hazards such as lung infections which have continued to increase as the abuse of e-cigarettes continue to rise among the young in the society. My research explores e-cigarettes or a health, cultural, ethical and safety perspectives. My proposed solution to the abuse of cigarettes is the introduction of interventions through health policies and creation of awareness through training and intensive education for the youths. I advocate or strict government policies on e-cigarettes such as high taxation or the products to discourage their use.

Which of your resources or references provided the strongest insights on your issue? Explain.

Etter, J. F. (2010). Electronic cigarettes: a survey of users. BMC public health , 10(1), 231.

Friedman, A. S. (2015). How Does Electronic Cigarette Access Affect Adolescent Smoking? Journal of Health Economics , 44, 300-308.

The above resources discuss and provide the most reliable insights on e-cigarettes. The online survey conducted by Etter on the use of e-cigarettes was informative and offered detailed information on why the use of e-cigarettes has increased, how e-cigarettes are used or abused and who are the most users of e-cigarettes. The info was impactful in my analysis of health issues arising from e-cigarettes and in the identification of the target population. The study of how e-cigarettes influence adolescent smoking offered insights into the rise of abuse of e-cigarettes among the young due to general acceptance and how the behavior continue to affect the youth in society.

Which of the perspectives of inquiry was most revealing or important in relation to the solution you proposed? Explain.

During my research, the inquiry on the use of e-cigarettes as a tool to assist the individual in quitting was significant to the solutions provided. The proposal that e-cigarettes are less destructive than tobacco has led to the adoption of e-cigarettes through the belief that there are less harmful. However, the inquiry revealed that e-cigarettes also contain nicotine in low qualities and other potentially toxic chemicals. Such chemicals are addictive and infectious associated with diseases like cancer and lung disease. The revelation leads to the proposed solution of intensive education to ensure that those who use e-cigarettes understand the health risks and other impacts of e-cigarettes despite advocacy on its use as a tool for quitting smoking. The research also created an understanding of health, ethical and cultural perspectives of e-cigarettes as American culture has been affected in health and practices such as investments and savings by e-cigarettes.

Which of the perspectives of inquiry was least revealing or important in relation to the solution you proposed? Why do you think this is?

The area of use of e-cigarettes for smoking cessation was a perspective I found least revealing. E-cigarettes according to research have failed to discourage smoking and have increased the smoking population by incorporating the youth. The focus of the topic on the impact of e-cigarettes on health especially its contribution to health issues such as lung cancer makes its use as a tool of smoking cessation less significant. Therefore the effect of e-cigarettes on health in the form of diseases especially among the youth has more impact than its alleged beneficial use as a tool of reducing smoking. The lack of concrete evidence on how e-cigarettes have reduced smoking or led to its cessation further lessens the significance of the smoke cessation perspective in examining the use of e-cigarettes.
