Over the past years, criminal justice organizations in the United States have been facing various challenges related to multiple factors of organizational environments. Such factors are legal factors, political factors, social-cultural factors (such as demographic), economic, and technological factors. The most common challenge experienced in the justice system is fragmented jurisdictions, and the environmental factors are responsible for ensuring an effective judicial administration. Therefore, it is essential to look into the significance of each environmental aspect to achieve efficient performance and advancements in the country’s criminal justice organizations such as the police department, correctional facilities, courts, and other related agencies. Usually, environmental changes such as demand for services, legal resources, and posts on laws and activities of both public and private organizations may prompt change. Therefore, adjusting to these new constraints, developments, and pressure may interfere with an organization’s normal activities. For instance, arresting too many criminals due to increased crime and public burden may affect the justice system. It may implicate a rise in the number of prisoners and courtroom cases hence raising the number of prosecuting attorneys. Some benefits of this kind of legal factors may be as follows: firstly, making numerous arrests acts as a warning to other individuals who may be thinking of engaging in criminal behaviors. Therefore due to fear of getting arrested, they restrain from bad practices hence reducing crime rates in a given area. Secondly, various scenarios of judicial prosecutions in courtrooms demonstrate law and order within a country’s criminal justice organizations, and finally, it portrays the reliability of the system. Similarly, these legal factors also have negative implications. Firstly, too many arrests mean too many prisoners; hence it leads to overcrowding in the prison cells, thus putting the prisoners at risk of contracting airborne diseases and sometimes poor living conditions. Secondly, the federal government may lack adequate resources to sustain the prisoners in the correctional facilities hence making the move of many arrests irrelevant for the situation. Thirdly, having too many cases and attorneys in courtrooms may lead to stretching of government resources to facilitate numerous court sessions. Lastly, rampant arrests and prosecution may create enemity between the public and justice organizations hence may encourage cases of civil war. Therefore, legal factors may have vital implications on the efficiency of the criminal justice organization within a country. Examples of how political environments influence the efficiency of criminal justice systems include direct pressure from government officials, wealthy clients, and indirectly through administrative actions. The government’s influence on political developments may be performed through justice systems or other departments on the organization such as the police. Also, the government may be forced to make various constitutional amendments or interference with top government officials through justice systems such as court orders. This behavior is always typical after election periods or after changes related to power. These kinds of political influences may either have positive or negative impacts such as: when the justice system is defended by the government and operates within the rule of law, then it is likely to perform effectively in persecuting its functions. However, if the system is corrupt and operates under the influence of some few selfish individuals, it is expected to perform poorly in discharging its duties as required by the law. Theses corrupt behaviors and high government expenditures greatly promote inflation which is harmful to a country’s economy. The US comprises of many states whereby each operates with its own additional set of laws apart from the national constitutional policies. Hence, a bill that is acceptable in one state may be disallowed in another. This makes it sometimes challenging to convict victims who are found on the side of the law away from their residential state. To overcome the challenge, various advancements have been introduced in the justice system whereby the police department must arrest one before prosecution, then prosecutors determine the victim’s fate, and both judges and prosecutors cannot make judgments before arrests by the police. Another challenge is that justice system facilities such as police stations and courtrooms may be scarce in some areas leading to interference with the execution of justice functions because of delays in time used to access the services and facilities. Technological advancements have made a significant impact in various organizations, intending to improve how they operate. For instance, technology has enabled proper data storage methods in court systems that have made it easy to solve cases that go on for an extended period and require random revisits of previous sessions and statement referrals. Technology has improved police operations as it is now possible to monitor someone’s criminal records to determine their behavior. Another benefit is that it is applied in correctional facilities whereby the use of cameras helps in monitoring inmate activities within the cells, and automatic control of prison doors has helped reduce cases of prisoners attacking prison wardens whenever they move around to open the cells. The use of surveillance cameras has also helped the police department to monitor security around major cities. Generally, these key aspects of the environment affecting criminal justice organizations are dynamic factors. This is because their influence interferes with criminal justice organizations, and if compromised, everyone gets affected. In summary, an efficient justice system is vital for the country’s general wellbeing` since it promotes the thriving of the economy, security, and peace within its borders.
