The creation narrative is a Christian Bible story that is found in the 66 books of the Bible. It explains the creation, fall, redemption and restoration of mankind. The narrative may also be used to define God’s nature in relation to the reality of sickness and disease. Additionally, the story may be used as a source of hope and comfort in the light of illness. The creation narrative may be analyzed in specific ways that shows its implications in relation God’s nature concerning illnesses.

Fall

Adam and Eve, the first mankind, disobeyed instructions from God. The consequences of their sins are borne by all mankind today. Additionally, the Fall resulted to the beginning of spiritual and physical death from sicknesses and diseases.

Redemption

God was anguished by man’s suffering as punishment for their sins. Hence, He sent His son Jesus to die for mankind. The death of sin atoned for all of man’s sin and redeemed him from sicknesses and diseases.

Restoration

God will return to earth and restore mankind to the first state of creation, where there will be peace and diseases will be unheard of.

Implications

The four narratives are sources of hope and comfort in the light of diseases. During creation, God had good intentions for man and did not create diseases. Although the Fall of man resulted to physical illnesses, God had pity and sent His son to redeem mankind from these illnesses borne from sin. God will finally return and restore mankind to the original creation state. In the new status, human beings will be free from sicknesses.
