The reign of Elizabeth 1: The Virgin Queen is viewed in history as a Golden Age. Elizabeth 1 made England prosper under her reign, and she became the most famous queens in English history. The queen was a moderate protestant who reconciled between the Protestants and the Catholics (Briscoe, 2011) . The reign was a time of luxury and extravagance in which explorers like Raleigh and Drake sought the expansion of the territories of England overseas while writers such as Shakespeare expressed a flourishing popular culture. Queen Elizabeth 1, who liked to wear jewelry and sumptuous costumes and valued to be entertained in court embodied the sense of well-being. Life during Elizabeth 1’s reign, however, did not reflect such splendor because it was a time when opinions and books were censored, the poor became poorer, and plots to overthrow her were rife (Briscoe, 2011) . This research paper proposes to determine why Elizabeth 1 is so important in English history.
