The Industrial Revolution happened from the 18 th to the 19 th centuries. This period marked the reform of the agrarian rural societies in America and Europe to industrial and urban societies. Before the commencement of the Industrial revolution, people conducted manufacturing processes in their homes using basic machines and hand tools. Besides, they exercised farming as their main activity for the day. Life for the average person was quite difficult because of inadequate income, diseases and malnourishment (Hawken, Lovins & Lovins, 2013). However, with industrialization, things changed for the better since the invention of machines contributed to greater output and productivity for most people during this age. This is because industrialization brought a shift to powered, special purpose machineries, factories and mass production. It was during the industrial revolution period that the invention of iron and textile industries happened.
Because of the Industrial Revolution, companies improved transportation systems for easy movement of people. In addition, the period saw an improvement in communication systems as people needed to converse about the movement of goods from farms to industries, and to the marketplace (Hawken, Lovins & Lovins, 2013). Moreover, people who worked in the companies needed to save their money for future and emergency uses. In this case, the banking systems mushroomed. On the contrary, while this age contributed to an increased volume, different samples of manufactured goods and improved standards of living, it led to severe employment and poor living conditions for the working class and the poor.

Britain was the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. This is attributed to the fact that it had numerous deposits of iron ore and coal that called for industrialization, was politically stable and the globes’ leading colonial power. Moreover, its colonies served as sources of raw materials and market places for manufactured goods. As the demand for British goods escalated, there was a growing need for more cost effective production techniques leading to the rise of mechanization and the factory system.
