One of the ways through which GIS has been utilized in my life is via the use of maps. Maps are very important when we want to travel or know various places around us. I can remember there was a time when I travelled from my nation to another, searching for a certain hotel. The maps in my smartphone helped me locate them easily. Secondly, GIS has been very useful in my education and training. Through GSI, I have managed to understand various sets of data and information on my computer as they pertain to the different courses I have taken over time (Schmandt, 2019).
The two applications have a great impact on the modern world. For instance, the application of GIS in mapping and directions helps various people understand the world that is around them. For instance, one can easily know various locations on a specific highway or street. Also, GIS maps tend to improve tourism, and that translates to growth of economies. GIS maps are supported by the internet, and that is why they are readily available to many people (Sutton, Dassau, & Sutton, 2009).

On the other hand, applications of GIS in education has helped improve the learning experiences for students and instructors. Information is now easy to access and organize which makes the interactions between students and teachers easy and successful. Over the years, GIS applications have changed as technologies continue to improve. For instance, in the case of GIS mapping, several years ago, one could view maps that were not real time and those that could not single out specific places. They could only locate known landmarks. Today, GIS has made it possible even to see what is outside your door or certain events taking place at certain events (Johnson, 2007). In weather forecasting, the technology has also grown because decades ago meteorologists could only make long term forecasts. Today, it is possible to forecast the weather conditions for the next 10 or 15 minutes.
