Mitochondrion which is part of the eukaryote cell is like a battery because it supplies energy and needs to be discharged and charged as well to function effectively. Just like mitochondrion, batteries supply energy to specific sources they are subjected to such a remote control or a radio. A mitochondrion is responsible for the supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which is a molecule that is used by the cells as a source of energy. The supply of energy, therefore, makes a battery and mitochondrion similar. Mitochondrion also needs to be discharged to different cells through the body and again charged or exercised just like the ni-cad batteries (Alberts & Walter, 2012). The ni-cad batteries work in a way that they require to be fully discharged or else they will likely lose their capacity to retain the full charge.

Although both mitochondrion and batteries release energy for the different process such as the cell use and car activity respectively, they are different to some extent. A battery is made in such a way that it converts its energy into electricity for different use. This is not the case with mitochondrion as the chloroplast is what converts sunlight into energy which is supplied by the mitochondrion (Green, 2014). Mitochondrion, in this case, does not perform the function of energy conversion and only has the ATP synthase particle that is responsible for the synthesis of ATP molecules. The chloroplast is what is similar to a battery with respect to energy conversion. This, therefore, becomes a major difference between mitochondrion and a battery.
