The North Carolina Bathroom Bill (HB2) is a law that was implemented in 2016 in the state to enforce the use of the restroom based on an occupant's biological sex. HB2 was viewed as a tool to discriminate against the transgender people living in the state, which did not go well with the LGBT activists not only in North Carolina but also in the whole of the United States of America. One of the most critical issues that needed to be considered before the implementation of HB2 was the protection of the rights of the LGBT members residing in North Carolina. In an attempt to fill the gaps that had been left by HB2, the guidelines for transgender equality in public schools was created. The policy contrasts HB2 in that it provides for the protection of the rights of the transgender while HB2 is not viewed that way.

The HB2 attracts the social scientific personalities and researchers in the various fields. The LGBT and psychology have shared a close connection based on how the society views the members of LGBT and the issues that affect them. The implementation of HB2 would affect the transgender people psychologically by making them feel unwanted in an era where equality is emphasized. The HB2 issue is therefore likely to affect the transgender individuals in negative ways such as the development of minority stress. Moving on to the sociologist view of LGBT and their rights, it is clear that the society might not have their best interests at heart. Focusing on the HB2 in North Carolina, the discrimination against the transgender, concerning the use of the restrooms, leads to the advancement of the antisocial behaviors that continue to affect more LGBT members in the society.

The implementation of the HB2 raises various controversies. Firstly, the implementation of the bill in the state of North Carolina is an indicator of the gaps in the society that have openly led to discrimination against the transgender and the other members of the LGBT (Dastagir, 2016). While the law was applied to regulate the use of restrooms without necessary pointing to the transgender people, it ends up being against them. The other controversy that HB2 displays are the view of the society on LGBT issues. American society has lately been in favor of the LGBT members and their issues (Dastagir, 2016). Thus, the implementation of the HB2 was a controversial approach to the use of public restrooms for the transgender people.

Even after the repeal of HB2, the previously implemented bill may cost North Carolina more than expected. Some of the athletics and organizations that left the state when HB2 was first implemented may not be wooed back that easily (Dastagir, 2016). The state practiced the repeal and replace system which brought another law in the place of the original HB2. According to Dastagir (2016), LGBT activists and supporters in North Carolina stated that the best course of action in the state would only have been to repeal the HB2 for good. It was imperative for North Carolina to appear supportive of the transgender people and the other members of the LGBT as they prepare to be in an era for change as far as their rights are concerned.

The solution to the adverse effects that have been caused by the bathroom bill is to have policy changes in the use of social amenities to promote equality of the residents (Berman & Phillips, 2017). The state needs to develop a system of decision-making that puts into consideration the existence of the LGBT members in the state. The state also needs to be in support of LGBT activism in its locality to make the members of the LGBT feel wanted by the society (Berman & Phillips, 2017). Furthermore, North Carolina should encourage the residents of the state and those from outside its boundaries to close the digital divide created and to embrace unity and equality as some of the support areas for the LGBT members in the state.
