Nursing shortage reported across the world is attributed to several factors that need to be addressed to be able to mitigate the problem. The shortage of nurses in different regions arises due to varying factors as there are areas where they enjoy an adequate surplus of the workforce. Addressing the issue requires the incorporation of financial, quality, and clinical aspects in decision making. The financial aspect incorporated is the funding of the faculties. This is because the shortage of nurses arises due to the lack of qualified educators to train the nursing personnel. This results in restricting the number of students who can enroll in nursing schools. In cases where there are enough educators, the cost of pursuing nursing is expensive, and thus the students opt for cheaper courses. Funding the nursing programs will allow more students to enroll to meet the number of those exiting for a varied reason.

Medical errors reported in the health facility affects the quality of services in the health facilities. This should be incorporated into the decision to implement evidence-based projects. Medication errors arise due to the shortage, thus understanding the nature of the errors is vital in the identification of adequate interventions. There are different specialties in the nursing profession; some specialties are adequately supplied with the workforce, while others are strained with the shortage. This is a vital consideration as it will determine where more funding will be geared towards to increase the number of professionals.

Bedside nurses leave the practice due to burnout, long working hours as well as heavy workloads. Addressing this will result in the marinating of the professionals and reducing the high turnover rates reported in the nursing profession. These interventions will directly combat the nursing shortage as the surplus of nursing will meet the demand. Once they leave the nursing schools, they will join the workforce that supports their well being and thus reduce the turnover rates (Cooley &Gagne, 2016).
