Nursing shortage embodies one of the critical challenges affecting the present day health care environment necessitating the development of suitable remedies. My project for this module entailed exploring the arguments surrounding nursing shortage including the root causes, the attached effects, as well as the solutions that can be pursued. The project revealed several points concerning the dynamics surrounding health issues as well as the role performed by the involved stakeholders. In addition to the dynamics I was also exposed to various methods of inquiry into issues affecting healthcare in order to acquire the most relevant responses to queries and initiate the implementation of solutions.

New practice approaches offer a unique goal-oriented perspective for analyzing the issue of nursing shortage as they focus on a more futuristic outcome for patients than traditional methods. In essence, this topic revealed that the present problems affecting the health care industry are caused by inflexibility of health professional to the present environment. Also known as evidence-based practice, flexible practices entail the conscientious, unequivocal, prudent, and realistic application of contemporary, verified evidence in decision making concerning the care offered to patients. EBP mainly incorporates clinical knowledge and patient experiences with the most relevant research information. The process of EBP is specifically a lasting, self-instigated, challenge-based process to learning that is characterized by the health care faculty encountering issues and undertaking research to best solve the problems as opposed to being completely reliant on historical methods which are mostly ineffective. Application of EBP to the project revealed some of my personal strengths and weaknesses especially with regard to the research process. Specifically, keeping up with the most recent developments was not challenging due to the ease of access to news sources as well journals through digital mediums by researchers. A fundamental weakness that is evident is keeping up with all the developments and determining the most suitable approach of incorporating them practically. However, there was a need to introduce personnel who have a firm grasp on the enshrined concepts in order to offer a sense of direction concerning the suitable application of the information gained. Personally, attainment of the competencies was evidenced by the fact that the final research capstone contained tenets that have been developed in recent times relative to the current era.

Intra-professional collaboration is a concept that denotes the extensive collaboration between medical experts from diverse disciplines functioning in distinct organizations in order to offer the best possible care to patients . One of the key takeaways from the module is the fact that intra-professional collaboration among the various experts in the healthcare setting is critical but relatively complex due to the distinct nature of the different professions. In the context of the issue of nursing shortage, collaboration between the various stakeholders is critical as it aids in maintaining morale and ensuring that all the tasks are completed promptly. Essentially, the manner in which nurses at different levels relate with each other in the workplace setting, including workplace conflict, weak personnel association and job dissatisfaction, can drag tasks or delay them. In addition to this, poor intra-professional collaboration can also lead to some of the nurses quitting the industry as they seek for better work conditions. Throughout the module, one of the key personal strengths I noted is the fact that my grasp of the key functions of each of the players is relevant and that there are minimal challenges in linking the different care giving roles to ensure their coordination. A fundamental weakness, however, is the fact that I lack the relevant knowledge to determine the most suitable lines and approaches to communication between the various professionals for the accomplishment of envisioned goals. The practice of intra-professional collaboration necessitates an austere understanding of the multiple channels of communication as well as the suitable approaches through which the distinct tasks can be coordinated to attain the most ideal outcome and within the least time possible . Some of the potential resources and competencies that could be introduced to achieve optimum results include learning to gain knowledge on share patient care skills while undergoing practice to transfer them to professional practice. Due to the relative complexity of implementing education that advocated for intra-professional collaboration into a given curriculum, the integration of care rotation in learning could be beneficial hence leading to better interactions between the various stakeholders. One of the key indicators of my competency in this module is the fact that I was able to determine the leading causes of conflict within the healthcare setting and subsequently propose suitable remedies.

The healthcare delivery and clinical system module was centered explicitly on presenting facts concerning the organized responses of given societies to the health challenges affecting their populations. In essence, these systems define the fundamental blocks that form health care delivery systems (HDSs), the associated governance, funding approaches, the available national resources, systems in place to monitor quality, and the provision of healthcare in the various institutions. A key takeaway from this module is the fact that the HDS in a given region can have considerable influence on the effectiveness of health care measures offered to patients as well as their subsequent health outcomes. An active healthcare system functions to guarantee that all the associated elements are at their optimum level hence creating a chain of effects that ultimately ensures that the population is offered the best healthcare possible. An ineffective HDS results in various complications including professional aversion from the healthcare discipline as it does not offer favorable terms of engagement. In line with this aversion, individual clinical systems also have considerable implications on nurse roles as well as their dedication to the profession. One of the key personal strengths noted is the fact that I was able to gain skills in evaluating healthcare delivery and clinical systems and determining possible sources of challenges. Mainly, by having a firm grasp on the tenets of a HDS, it was easier to map this onto the assigned topics and developing suitable remedies . However, a fundamental weakness noted in this area was ascertaining the individuals responsible for any possible complications in such systems as well as potential solutions. My s tudent competency in the topic was evidenced by the fact that I was able to determine the possible approaches to HDS that result in nurse shortage. Some of the areas of HDS that have resulted in the acute shortage of nurses comprise the nursing practice environment as well as organizational performance. In essence, these areas have been extensively neglected leading to a dis-attachment between human resource management guidelines, organizational schematics, and the context of nursing work. Notably, the research into nursing health services asserts that there is an austere discrepancy in unifying theory in order to lead to conceptualization and proposal of a practical nursing delivery schematic.

Ethical considerations in healthcare were concerned with the collection of principles and values that function to address the concepts surrounding the positive and negative dimensions of human dealings. In essence, ethics center on the basis for acting or desisting from certain endeavors or for approving or denouncing conduct. Such considerations can be managed from an individual clinical or societal and national level. One of the critical takeaways derived from the module is that there is an active link between ethical considerations and the roles of the different healthcare specialists as such specialists have to continually ensure that they do not infringe on the moral tenets. Specifically, when developing training models, it is crucial to consider the possible implications of the involved concepts to practice and hence align the different roles appropriately. One of the vital personal strengths noted in this module is that I was able to relate personally with the ethical concepts presented in order to map them onto the various practices in healthcare. In addition to this, I was also able to ascertain the ethical dilemmas in multiple scenarios and propose the most suitable actions. However, one of the weaknesses noted is the fact that it was difficult to determine the most appropriate way of promoting practice while also upholding all the ethical tenets given the fact that different cases necessitate unique approaches. Student competency in this module was evidenced by the finding that nurses in various nursing settings face numerous ethical challenges that may necessitate reconciliation with personal values in the confines of their professional nursing obligation. In essence, everyday ethical issues in the practice of nursing draw minimal attention but can lead to stressful situations for nurses. In such instances, nurses can experience some degree of discomfort in suitably addressing the pertinent ethical issues in the profession and entirely quit the industry. Evidently, the greater the number of dissatisfied nurses, the higher the turnover and subsequent shortage of nursing professionals. In addition to this, the strict codes of ethics translate to high rates of infringement on the part of nurses causing leading to job loss.

The module on the role of technology in enhancing health care outcomes was concerned with the implications of the digital explosion on patient outcomes at different levels. Technology has been linked to numerous applications and has gained considerable prominence in the healthcare sector. Digital innovations have currently been adopted to a higher degree in the various aspect of healthcare to guarantee that patients attain the most optimum outcomes possible. One of the key points noted during the module is the fact that technology has the capacity to solve some of the most contentious issues in health care in case the relevant stakeholders choose to implement it extensively. However, there has been a slow rate of adoption of technological components within the healthcare environment resulting in extensive inefficiency. A key strength personally noted within this module is the fact that I was able to ascertain the aspects of technology that are applicable within the healthcare setting as well as the approaches of application. One of the weaknesses noted is the fact that I was unable to have a full grasp of the actual functionality of the technologies in order to determine their effectiveness. Primarily, the module was characterized by a proliferation of technological terminology that was difficult to comprehend. Student competence in the module was evidenced by the fact that I was able to ascertain the various approaches through which the issues of nursing shortage as well as its related causes, can be solved using technology. Specifically, some of the technology-centered methods include nurse scheduling, mobile communication, and automated nursing documentation. Mostly, I was able to interpret the different technological components as well as their possible application within the nursing profession as well as environments. Subsequently, the technologies simplify the tasks for patients hence acting as a boost to their level of job satisfaction. Collectively, these remedies necessitate modifications in the flow of tasks as well as clinical processes and may require the participation of all the involved healthcare participants.

The module on health policy was probably the most pertinent to my research as it concerned with all the diverse aspects of nursing as well as staffing strategies. Essentially, healthcare policy defines the entirety of the decisions, plans as well as actions that are implemented to attain particular objectives concerned with the healthcare goals in a given society. They cover all the diverse dimensions of healthcare including access to health, the care quality offered, as well as health equity. Health care policies define the vision of a given unit hence aiding in determining goals as well as reference points both for the short and long term. One of the takeaways is that the policies that define specific systems or institutions have a considerable impact on the level of achievement both at personnel as well as organizational perspective. Healthcare policy is crucial as it determines the holistic aspect of healthcare including education, hiring, and the distinct job descriptions. A key personal strength is the fact that I had a firm grasp on the various aspects of policy as well as the different sections affecting the nursing profession. My major weakness entailed aligning the policy measures to develop suitable practices that will aid in alleviating nursing shortage. Student competence in the module was evidenced in the fact that I was able to ascertain the policies that aggravate the issue as well as those that alleviate it in the various dimensions. Specifically, education policy has a considerable impact on the supply of nurses into the healthcare sector. High educational charges dissuade students from pursuing the profession as hard economic times continue hitting nations. To alleviate this challenge, increased public subsidies are required to grant a higher level of access to nursing education with an accentuation on graduate nursing education. In addition to this, policies must also be developed to define the maximum number of nursing hours that an individual professional is required to work. In addition to this, systems should also be designed to ensure that healthcare institutions hire a sufficient number of nurse professionals who can serve the patients consistently. Policy measures could also be developed to offer adequate remuneration for nurses hence attracting more individuals to pursue the profession.

The module titled leadership and economic models was concerned with the role that leaders from an institutional and governance perspective perform in affecting the healthcare institution. In essence, leaders determine the policies governing individual fields of practice and institutions. Effective policies guarantee that there is are adequate personnel and that they are satisfied with their respective roles. In contrast, ineffective leadership results in human resource management challenges including inconsistent hiring and unfavorable terms of service for the existing workforce. One of the critical practices that can be adopted in this regard entails undertaking rigorous vetting processes that will yield the most qualified personnel for the individual roles. Concerning nursing shortage, leadership embodies one of the most essential factors as the individuals in the positions of power are responsible for the hiring process as well as the development of policies that will reduce the rate of turnover. Additionally, approaches to leadership that can affect staffing include succession planning and development of work schedules.

The various modules offered me the opportunity to gain extensive insight into the diverse aspects of healthcare as well as the influence they have on practice. The nursing shortage is a repercussion of various components relating to each other to decrease the number of qualified personnel willing to offer services to patients. Tenets presented in the course provided a unique approach to reasoning concerning suitable alignments to ensure that a sufficient number of nurses serve patients. Some of the personal weaknesses encountered in the course were overcome by undertaking additional research and collaborating with peers and tutors.
