Over the years, there have been a lot of debates over the issue of bathroom use with regards to transgender or intersex individuals. Various states have come up with various policies on how such individuals should conduct themselves publicly. Transgender individuals possess both male and female characteristics and find it very difficult engaging publicly with other people. In the past, these individuals were treated quite wickedly and faced a lot of humiliation and embarrassments. One of the earliest cases regarding intersex individuals is the Thomas Hall case of the 17 th century. The jury, with the intention of humiliating Thomas Hall, had ruled that she was both a woman and a man and ordered Thomas Hall to wear both male and female clothes.
Such ruling was even better, as compared to how intersex individuals were treated in Europe during the same period. In Europe, if an individual was found to possess both male and female mannerism, that person would be forced to adopt one gender for the rest of his/her life. Another popular transgender person in the mid-twentieth century was Christine Jorgenson who faced a lot of ridicule and humiliation as well. Today, however, the world is more aware and more democratic place where every individual is accorded his or her rights as necessary. The current debate on bathroom politics regarding intersex individuals has not changed much.
