Gwen Sharp’s Statement Explanation
Gwen Sharp's quote, “masculinity is so fragile that apparently, even the slightest brush with the feminine destroys it,” means that men’s ego is under threat by the power of feminism. It means that even though the society places men above women in the community, the men’s ego is under threat by the rising state of women in society. It also implies that despite their perceived status as influential people in society, the reality is that men are so fragile, and exposure to feminism would be a significant threat to their perceived domination in the community.
Gwen Sharp’s statement evaluation and opinion
I agree with Gwen's statement that masculinity is fragile, and any slightest brush with feminism can destroy the power of masculinity. I support the statement because most of the actions that men undertake or those that are considered ‘manly’ are constructed and not the reality. It means that these are things that ladies are capable of doing. Still, society has made it deliberate and has minimized the chances of women participating or undertaking such roles with fear of intimidating men’s ego.

Power Linkage To Masculinity
In the current society, there are a lot of symbols that are linked to masculinity, and they promote injustice and gender imbalance in the community. Men are perceived to be the embodiment of power in society, and there are a lot of symbols that society uses to exhibit such power and dominance. These are displayed in movies where influential personalities and actors are associated with men. Women are granted roles which undermine their capabilities and potential in the society. Also, most adverts use the symbol of men as powerful. In most adverts featuring sports celebrities, most of them are men, and they take the dominating and influential role in such adverts.
Examples
In reality, most organizations believe that leaders should be men. They believe that men are more capable of leading a big organization than women. It explains the reason why most big companies have their CEO as men. Also, most men are believed to be powerful in most families. Such an example explains why men take the leading position in families and are considered the head of the house. Lastly, some courses were deemed to be manly, and this explains why it took some years before women broke into the field of engineering and science.
