Patience advocacy involves taking patients as individuals, respecting their choices, protecting their dignity and privacy. In radiology which involves diagnosis through medical imaging such as X-ray and CT scan, patient advocacy is very important. A radiologist in some cases has to scan some body parts which are private. Advocacy in this scenario meaning expressing professionalism and caring while showing concern and compassion. I, therefore, think it is the role of radiologists to advocate for patients because the hospital is a place to show care and concern. In my opinion, a radiologist should assess the situation, exercise care, discretion and judgment as a professional patient advocate.
To provide a positive experience for the patient as a radiologist, showing personal care is paramount. Many patients come in pain and cannot wait for long as I prepare. Therefore, the radiologist should try to be fast in preparation. I will then take the patient to radiology common room where we will talk the situation in private and ask the patient to make the best choice. If the choice is to go on with radiology, I will give the patient a chance to privately undress ready for imaging. In a friendly and caring way, I will show the way and be careful as I take the examination not to expose the patient to additional radiations. I will also allow patients to have privacy in the dressing room before handing over results to give back to the doctor.

Being an inter-professional health care member as a radiologist means that I can collaborate with others specialized in other healthcare areas to assist a patient. It is this collaboration that creates an inter-professional team that works on a common goal to improve patient's outcome. However, this practice affects patients and their care as they are sent from one room to the other where they find a different profession. They find it tiring to explain their conditions over and over. I think patients would prefer a one-room medication by one caring doctor which is not possible if it is a major medication.
