History allows people to understand the past, which as a result gives people the chance to understand the present. Through history, people get an excellent opportunity to draw some sense of some current events occurring globally. Many scientists claim that history is unscientific because it lacks supporting experiments which substantiate the historical claims. History plays a crucial role in defining some activities of religions across the world. For instance, Christianity is purely built on historical background. According to Christianity, God manifested Himself in history. Although some people term history as fictional, through history people get insights into their own religious cultures and get to know other historical cultures hence promoting cross-cultural spiritual awareness.

According to Allan Richardson, Christianity stands on the historical background which once revealed not valid or not in line with the Biblical account; the entire religion would be rendered a myth. In Christianity, history is paramount because it upholds the faith of the believers from degenerating to a mere myth ( Richardson, 1967 ). History helps Christians in substantiating their faith in Jesus and God of Israel. Without history, Christians would lack the foundation of their faith. Other religious doctrines still believe in history. For example in Islam, Muslims believe that the Quran came from heaven and given to Mohammed. The event is historical, and Muslims purport that it was God’s manifestation of Mohammed ( Sharif, 1963 ). Judaism also observes some Biblical events like Exodus and the rescue of Israelites from Egypt by God. Historical developments in the Bible are believed to be true because independent authors authored them and possessed a lot of similarities. For instance, the birth of Jesus in Mathew and Luke give similar accounts of the events surrounding the birth. Although historical aspects are evident in different religions, Christianity is the only religion whose ground entirely stands on historical accounts.
