The principle of utility forms the base of a person’s work as it determines whether an action is suitable or not, whether it appears to increase or reduce happiness of the parties involved. For instance, in community interests of its members are collectively included. Naturally, man is under the guidance of two measures that directly influence their utility principle; pain and pleasure, that dictate what they ought to do and shall do which bear both the standard of right, wrong, and how they impact them in society.

Every action that man engages in serves to confirm and demonstrate the impact of pain and pleasure as humans pretend to be in control but are subject to them throughout their lifetime. Utility in an object brings out the benefit, the good, and satisfaction while at the same time preventing the occurrence of pain, mischief, and unhappiness. Utility actions are considered right either because they ought to be done or ought not to be done, however, they can’t be disregarded because there seems to be no one who cannot tacitly endorse it, as arguments put forward to ignore this principle of utility only serves to show how it is poorly applied.

Persons who seem to oppose the utility principle are to go through a prescribed procedure to evaluate themselves and their abilities. Pessimists are to have peace of mind so that they can be able to make a sound judgment as to whether to discard the principle altogether or not. In the case of discard, they are to reflect on the alternative policy that they will rely on for judgment or act without a principle. An assessment of the alternative law is done to ascertain satisfaction whether it is just a mere principle or is a tillable principle. A reflection of how the new policy affects their actions, disregarding consequences of standard right and wrong conducted, and whether all can universally accept it.

Alternative reflections used by an individual against utility have to offer observations of their basis and offer what alternatives they may be using. Justification of how far alternative principle is right and why they are not to be taken further as the comparison between utility principle and alternative principles only justifies utility principle to be the right one to undertake.
