Assignment #1

The rates of divorce have been on the rise in Canada within the last few years attributed to a wide array of factors including cases of infidelity and violence in marriages. The issue becomes significant with the view that divorce is fast growing a topic of concern among the people in the country. The engagement in an analysis of the topic is essential in trying to get a clear understanding of its impacts on society.

The topic is covered within the news/media with the focus being towards highlighting the impact that it is having especially on the young children within the marriage settings. The Canadian Press (2017) reflects on the issue of marriage arguing that approximately half of the couples that have contemplated divorce tend to change their mind a year later. Thus, by highlighting such instances, it becomes much more comfortable for others to understand that divorce tends to have negative impacts on society as a whole.

According to Patel (2018), the high divorce rate in the country has created a negative attitude towards marriage with nearly half of Canadians lacking confidence in the institution of marriage. Most of the data presented through the media reflect on the fact that divorce acts as a contributing factor to others issues such as teenage pregnancies and suicides among adolescents among others.

In my personal view, I believe that the issue of divorce creates the need for every member of the community to get involved in one way or another, as it affects a significant number of people. The engagement of the people would be of great value in trying to find lasting solutions to an issue that is considered to have contributed to the breaking up of a significant number of families within Canada.

Do you believe that divorce is an issue that society must discuss in Canada?

Assignment #2

One notable issue that is facing the global family is the lack of a father figure in a significant number of families, which can be attributed to the fact that majority of the women are becoming single parents. The issue can be seen in western countries including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom where an increasing number of women are choosing to raise children away from their fathers. Wilcox (2013) reflects on the issue from the perspective that although some of the children raised without fathers turn out fine regarding their moral positioning, it is clear that fathers play an influential role in the lives of their children. The issue has created severe concern especially among religious leaders, who argue that raising children without their fathers may affect their mental wellbeing significantly.

One of the critical challenges that psychologists have noted today is that majority of the issues arising within family settings are brought about by the fact that the father figure cannot be seen within the family setting. An example is the fact that the father is expected to act as source guidance for his children within different stages of life, which is an aspect that is fast changing significantly. I tend to believe in the fact that fathers play an influential role in the family setting and that their roles cannot be replaced under any given circumstance. Thus, this leads to my conclusion that mothers should always be willing to provide their children with an opportunity for having to be raised by their fathers. That will help in reducing instances where some of these children tend to rebel at different stages of life due to their lack of connection to their fathers.

Assignment #3

The first issue that I consider as being significant within the global family is on the issue of finances taking into account that families are fast experiencing financial pressures attributed to the changing economies. I tend to believe in the fact that families are meant to act as the basic unit of any given society. However, my view has been dissolved by the fact that the majority of the families today are experiencing splits due to issues surrounding finances. Although the issue of finances is essential, I hold the view that it should not be vital in determining the prosperity or failure of the family. Instead, families ought to come up with proactive avenues through which to compromise on the financial challenges that they are facing with the view being towards advancing that overall platform for change. That will also be of value towards providing some form of hope for the future of society.

The second issue that I consider as being significant within the family is parenting. In the modern-day society, parenting has been regarded as being digital with parents focusing much of their attention on their career while ignoring their roles as parents. In my view, this is one of the critical factors that is contributing to the majority of the issues that the society is facing today, a majority of the children do not have role models that they can emulate. Parents are expected to act as a key platform through which to educate children on the values and vices occurring within the social setting. Thus, this means that the fact that a majority of the parents are abandoning their parental duties would mean that children would focus more on educating themselves. The outcome of this is that society would find itself in a situation where children are becoming more and more rebellious.
