1.) Explain the "real, tangible, social consequences" of class, race & gender to your social issue.

Social class has significant impact in healthcare. It dictates the level to which people can own wealth and how their level of wealth places then in a certain economic class. It means that those who are extremely wealthy and part of the social upper class will have easy access to the best healthcare quality and facilities. Those from the middle class have access to quality health care but not to the level of those in the upper class. The lower class will find it hard accessing healthcare and many times, they will be dependent on the coverage provided by the government. In the absence of such coverage, they might not manage to access any form of healthcare.

Race often makes significant difference in matters health. Those from the Caucasian community will have easy access to quality health care and in many instances make up individuals from the social upper class. Those from minority groups such as the African Americans and Latinos, who mainly make up the lower class will find it hard to access quality care because of their race and because they make a significant percentage of the lower class.

Gender does impact healthcare too. Both genders will be susceptible to unique healthcare issues that the other gender may not be affected by. For instances, women are often place at increased risk of death due to child birth while men do not experience this. Women will suffer from breast or cervical cancer while men will be affected by prostate cancer. Therefore, gender differentiates the type of health conditions that each gender experiences.

2.) How is your social issue defined, deliberated, and addressed through social policy?

Health care stands as one of the social issues that are highly governed by policies. These policies are often looking to make healthcare access and quality equal to ensure that every individual is society is subjected to similar experiences when accessing health care. To a great extent, policies in health care help assure those who are not economically sound to have access to good quality health care services. Such policies include the Affordable Care Act that helps reduce spending and costs in health care thus making it accessible to all ( Birk, 2016)

3.) List some possible remedies/recommendations on how to alleviate the social consequences of class, race, gender inequality and create a more level playing field for those impacted by your social issue.

The eliminate issues of class in society, the government needs to provide equal economic opportunities for all individuals right from when they are in school to the jobs they get. This will ensure those who are currently in the lower class will have more access to economic resources and therefore afford quality health care. Advocacy would be important in matters race and gender. groups and individuals continually advocating for equal access to quality health care without consideration of one’s gender or race would ensure that the government makes healthcare an equal playing field for all.
