Increased chance of victimization due to playing Pokemon Go
The new mobile game in town Pokemon Go has increasingly become an overnight sensation with U.S fanatics. Unfortunately, it has also become an avenue often used by armed robbers carryout their criminal activity by luring their victims into isolated trap before carrying out their criminal activities. According to Routine theory as stated by Felon and Cohen (1979), opportunities for crime are often generated through day to day activities that one engages in to meet their needs ( Cardone et al., 2012) . The accumulated evidence depict that, illegal, criminal offending as well as unstructured activities such as Pokemon Go activities often seem to be a risk for criminal activity. When playing Pokemon Go, one often become carried away by the search for characters in the game, hence losing their situational awareness. This creates an ample opportunity for the perpetrators to strike. This is common especially when one is in unfamiliar or new environment (In Madero –Hernandez and Fisher, 2012).
How are the suggestions put forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department related to the material for this week?
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, usage of footage cameras has increasingly reduced the number of complaints often laid against law enforcement officers by the civilians. Fundamentally, this law enforcement methodology is meant to heighten transparency between the law enforcement department and the civilians. After reviewing readings from Dario et al. (2015), it evident that favorable conditions are often linked to increased crime. Dario et al. (2015), cites that according to opportunity theories, crime is extremely explicit as well as concentrated in both time and place. Therefore, in an attempt to proactively reduce the number of incidences that have been often linked to the security officers, there is need to have surveillance cameras to promote transparency in the routine activities carried out by the security officers.
In their theory, Cohen and Felon (1979) point out that the underlying structure of any crime pattern s often influenced by the perpetrator’s awareness of activity space, which are the existing environment in one’s interact with routine basis. Therefore, with an environmental mechanism through which offenders are constrained such as 24/7 camera surveillance, the rate of the criminal activity linked to the law enforcement is likely to reduce ( Dario et al., 2015) .
Everyday life to prevent yourself and your property from being victimized based on the discussed on principles
Criminals are normal people with rational minds who evaluate the prospective danger and rewards often linked with the criminal activity before embarking on one. I take it upon myself to ensure that I hang out with the right people. I try as much as possible to know who my close friends are and the activities they engage in during their free time to avoid being a victim. I also think rationally before engaging in any activity that may have long term consequences to my life. Consequently, i avoid hanging out in crime attractors’ areas and rather seek for crime neutral areas to avoid being victimized for the wrong reasons.
