The role of healthcare managers is to create an environment that can provide necessary and quality healthcare at maximum profit. Throughout this course, my definition of the role of a healthcare manager has significantly changed. I now view the role of healthcare managers as planning, directing, and coordination of different practitioners and departments to maximize patient satisfaction. This is because healthcare managers are in charge of establishing departmental coordination and innovation. Funding innovation within healthcare environments is essential, and managers are required to direct the flow of funds from different resources such as insurers to the appropriate areas.
Managers are also expected to establish and manage the teamwork of their subordinates. Managers have to ensure that the departments they oversee are capable of teamwork. Managers engage in the facilitation of teamwork through the preparation, summarizing, and formatting information to be consumed by the staff. They also take part in mediating the goals, strategies, and daily activities of the firm. They have also had to promote the implementation of innovative operational approaches. Hence, based on my understanding of this, my view on the role of healthcare managers has considerably broadened.

Before the course, I mainly viewed the role of nurses as surrounding the determination of budgets, orders, administration of payrolls, and the distribution of regular communication. Hence, my belief mainly centered on the administrative aspects of the responsibilities of a nurse manager. However, I now have a considerable perspective on the role that nurse managers have in supporting and facilitating innovation within the hospital environment. Typically, healthcare managers are involved in working with other healthcare providers, making policy decisions, and other relevant activities required for ensuring that the firm functions smoothly and successfully.
Hence, I now understand that managers can enhance the delivery of healthcare through the operation of hospitals for the delivery of reliable and adaptable services. This includes the coordination of groups such as doctors and insurance companies and guiding them to enhance focus on the same goal. Policies that affect innovation are constantly changing with different regulations requiring strict compliance. Hence, managers have to be consistently aware of any updates to these policies, while also possessing the ability to communicate them to the employees while also implementing them within the hospital.
I have a more in-depth understanding of how the integration of technology innovations in hospitals are dependent on the skills and capabilities of healthcare managers. Technology innovations require managers to utilize solid timing skills provided that the infrastructure of the hospital can adapt to these new technologies. Their accountability also affects the level of innovation as managers have to demonstrate effectiveness, safety, and a variety of other regulatory components to organizations that are accredited. Hence, the role of the healthcare manager not only significantly affects innovation within hospitals but has also been considerably changed by sifts in healthcare innovation across the years.
To fit in within the role of a healthcare manager, I believe that I should possess several traits. First of all, I plan to engage in the development of my logical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities. Healthcare managers that are successful and effective have to solve all types of problems and challenges. Hence, to ensure that healthcare facilities comply with the latest healthcare regulations, logical thinking is an essential trait. Therefore, I need to grow my problem-solving skills to ensure that the decisions I made are based on critical and logical thoughts. This is because these decisions affect the outcomes of a healthcare organization.
Effective communication skills are an active area I definitively need to work better on. Healthcare managers are expected to be not only discreet while engaging with patients but also be diplomatic when interacting with colleagues. Hence, to be in a better position to mediate any conflicts that arise and have the ability to negotiate various agreement contracts, developing better communication skills is necessary. This will also be important for the articulation of the policies of the healthcare facility. I need to be able to clearly disseminate information to different actors within the hospital, which will be useful for the development of informational reports.
Healthcare administrators are responsible for the outcomes and satisfaction of patients within the healthcare facility. This calls for high levels of integrity and personal responsibility. Hence, being more ethical and more responsible is a crucial area of development, I also plan to focus on. As a management position, healthcare management demands high levels of accountability as the activities involve span across critical functions of the organization such as finance and employee compensation. By being more responsible and integral in what I do, I will be able to demand more ethical practices from my colleagues and subordinates while also supporting a higher quality of healthcare.
Therefore, I believe that healthcare managers have essential roles and responsibilities within the healthcare involvement. They enable the coordination of resources, the collaboration of different teams, and directions of activities for the achievement of the same objective and goal. This indicates that the role of a healthcare manager is a significant determinant for the level of innovation integrated within the hospital. For my future role as a healthcare manager, I plan to focus on the growth and development of specific skills, which include my communication skills and my critical thinking capabilities.
