Nurses play a significant role in community settings. A community setting is any place in which people are given some form of help that they lack to make their life cycles complete (Nies, 2019). Correctional facilities such as juvenile detention centers are classic examples of a community setting. The juvenile confinement centers act as holding points where unlawful individuals who are less than eighteen are held up to either serve their jail terms or wait to face the judge for the pronouncement of cases. The children who are within the confinement centers face many health challenges, making their stay in the facilities intolerable, which require urgent nursing interventions for their mitigation (Nies, 2019). Nurses play a crucial role in determining the well-being of the children in juvenile imprisonment centers.

Community Setting

Juvenile detention centers are a particular type of prison in which individuals who have not attained the majority age are placed upon being sentenced or when waiting to be taken to law courts for trial (Nies, 2019). To delinquent youths in the detention camps are provided with sexual, mental, and dental services regularly. A large section of the juvenile detainees involves themselves in illicit unprotected sexual behaviors, making them susceptible to sexually transmitted diseases. The children under detention are also likely to develop related mental disorders due to the culture shock they face once they are imprisoned (Nies, 2019). Therefore, provision of the medical health services will play a vital role in ensuring that the minors who are under incarceration remain healthy during their entire stay in the correctional centers.

Health Promotion Nursing Intervention

To promote health within the juvenile detention centers, nurses, together with concerned members of the public need to initiate and effect some health interventions that would ensure the health of the inmates is guaranteed. For instance, the duo groups can use education programs to sensitize the children inmates on the need to shun sexual activities when within the centers to avoid contracting sexually transmitted ailments such as HIV/AIDS. The nurses and members of goodwill can introduce free general health screening program in delinquent youth centers. The health checking will aid in identifying any kind of disease that the children detainees might be having, thus drawing an intervention mechanism much earlier before they become dangerous.

Professional Nursing Organization

The American psychiatric nursing association actively involves itself in the mental health maintenance of juveniles who are in detention. The association which was incepted in 1986 primarily aims at providing education and professional services to it is members. The nursing organization also publishes position papers which concentrate on outlining mental health-related issues highlights and the type of care that should be advanced to people suffering from psychiatric disorders. The education programs of the organization are offered by both face to face and online methods (American psychiatric nursing association, 2015).

Summary

To sum up, nurses play a crucial part in ensuring that the health of the minors held in juvenile detention centers is in a good state. The nurses provide health services such as mental and sexual care, which play a significant role in ensuring that the minors are in a good health state. Initiation and implementation of promotional nursing interventions such as education and treatment programs will come along with many benefits if done in proper timing. For example, sexual education advanced to the children inmates will help reduce the number of sexually related diseases incidences in the centers. The American psychiatric' educational programs have highly led to a reduction in the number of mental cases that are reported in the country. Finally, minors need to engage in lawful activities to avoid incarceration, as it wastes their spirit and time.
