It is imperative to note that nursing necessitates a system with reliable technology which is efficient and cost-effective for all individuals. The idea of incorporating a new technology can, nevertheless, be a daunting task for many nurse managers. Informatics and other related innovations often pose an enormous task to most healthcare organization seeking to restructure their operations. The adoption of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), nonetheless, has the propensity to counter the challenges likely to be encountered. SDLC, therefore appears to satisfy unique system needs and goals and is thus appropriate in the scenario presented.

The SDLC model follows a sequence of steps which are imperative in ensuring that operations are managed effectively, in light of a new system being adopted within the healthcare system. These steps involve: assessing the needs that the system ought to address, analyzing specifications for the system, designing, developing and testing the system, implementing the system supporting the system operations and users, and evaluating the system ( Gilland Howell, Kiffmeyer, Obergfell & Wilson, 2015 ).

As a nurse manager and also while alluding to the current situation, it is imperative to note that various versions of the Systems Development Life Cycle involve the aspect of testing in addition to the other steps included in the process. Besides, testing is postponed once implementation has taken shape. Some models even have seven and eight steps depending on the situation presented. The waterfall model can be focused on this case whereby it involves a variety of factors, mainly: Analysis, feasibility, implementation, testing, design and maintenance ( Gilland et al., 2015 ). This model would play an intricate role in the process to aid the nursing leader in attaining the chief objective. It is the most appropriate owing to its ability to accommodate small goals. For instance, the model can be deemed appropriate and essential whereby it is required that health information technology is to be implemented to cater for the operations involved in running the healthcare facility ( McCormick & Saba, 2015 ).

While utilizing the initiative, the first step taken would involve meetings between representatives and leaders belonging to different work groups. The nurses, physicians, medical assistants and other personnel have be involved in order to ascertain the success of the nursing leader. These individuals are critical in determining the viability of the course of action seeking to be made. After this has been accomplished, the nurse leader can authorize the design of a system while at the same time handing over the initiative to a design team ( Gilland et al., 2015 ). If this pertains to the electronic health records system mentioned prior, the team is bound to set goals and establish a plan pertaining to the software which could be deemed to be the most appropriate. Afterwards, this design team can then move on to the implementation phase by designing a functioning system.

The post implementation support would be the next step in the process, and this would involve testing, whereby the designers seek to test the system to ensure that it is functioning appropriately. This same team would then maintain the operations by offering the necessary technical support to the users. Besides, upgrades and other revisions pertaining to the systems can also be made when the need to do so arises ( McCormick & Saba, 2015 ). Based on the above illustration, one can discern that SDLC is bound to assist the nursing leader to overcome challenges resulting from introduction of new technologies and ideas that are likely to emerge in the healthcare system.

To sum it up, through advancement of the waterfall model, it becomes easy to manage the operations almost entirely. The nurse manage would only be required to follow the required steps stipulated in the SDLC and it is highly likely that this will yield significant results. Far for the complexity posed by the situation, SDLC is capable of revitalizing the system of operation and making it easy to adopt the new technology while experience minimal challenges. It is, therefore, highly recommendable that SDLC is utilized in this case scenario in order to yield the greatest benefit.
