Over the years, the role of government in the healthcare has expanded. Many people have argued about the issue on whether the government is doing the right thing or not. However, with the overall power and their influence in the market, the government has been able to come up with extensive programs (including technology-based ones), rules and regulations that ensure the health care is achieving the best quality and value. This paper discusses how the federal legislation affects the use of medical technology and how changes in medical technology have affected healthcare costs.
Federal legislation has played a part on the use of technology among various states. It does not leave behind its role in the use of medical technology. Increased Healthcare System Transparency is one of the federal drivers of prevention. According to Straube (2012), the driver enables the public access some of the preventive measures by healthcare. It begins to take place through the public reporting and internet-based dissemination of health care data. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) are one of the websites that allow the public access preventive measures and health promotion factors (Straube, 2012). The legislation has increased the use of medical technology.

Changes in medical technology have brought about positive and negative impacts on the provision of healthcare services. It has in turn affected the cost of the healthcare depending on how one views it. Coccia (2012) states that incremental drug innovations, which have occurred due to improved medical technology, have less side effects and higher efficacy. The use of such drugs, though somehow expensive in terms of price, will enables the patients to recover from the condition or the disease without incurring additional costs of the side effects. Recovery from the first attempt of high efficacy medication also proves to be relatively cheaper.
Technology is transitional as it changes day by day. Medical technology has been improving over the past few years and some of the current trends include Electronic Medical Records which enable easier storage and retrieval of patients’ information while Blockchain Systems allow the storage of the same medical system but taking way less space (‘Seven Healthcare’, 2020). These trends will enable easier performance of the U. S health care system as it facilitates sharing of information among medical specialists.
