The assertions that philosophy neither makes bread or cake adds the long-standing mystery associated with the subject. Many people have shown confusion with regards to what philosophy entails. The meaning of the word philosophy is mainly drawn from the Greek words that make it including Philo and Sophia which mean devotion and wisdom respectively. Therefore, philosophers are individuals who are devoted to the tenets of wisdom. Thus, in a broader perspective, philosophy is the study of the general and primary problems related to existence, values, knowledge, mind, language, and reason. It is about a deliberate attempt not only to formulate but also to understand various answers to fundamental questions about human existence. Therefore, if philosophy does not make bread or cake, then what is its nature? The subject consists of a set of beliefs and views about life and the universe often held in an uncritical way. Therefore, when a person refers to their philosophy, they refer to an informal way of doing things based on their beliefs and understanding.

Through philosophy, human beings have a platform of reflecting and criticizing their beliefs and the most held concepts about life. It is asserted that a true philosophical attitude focuses on two essential aspects that include searching and remaining critical. One must also depict an open mind and tolerance born out of the will to look at all the facts of the issue with necessarily applying prejudice. Understanding and applying philosophy, therefore, requires argumentation skills, techniques of analysis, and a body of knowledge to be appropriated hence the onset of the thought philosophical. The assertions that philosophy does not make bread or cake illustrate that the subject is an open shell that requires philosophers to be critical and reflective to find solutions to some of the problems and mysteries of the world. Philosophy is also an attempt to view the world by combining various human and scientific experiences into a consistent worldview ( https://www.nejm.org ) . Therefore, a philosopher would want to view the world through many viewpoints without any bias assessment. Another school of thought has also intimated that the primary role of philosophy is to clarify the meaning of words as presented in language.

Humanity and the world, in general, has many problems with few solutions. Philosophy is viewed as one of the perennial issues that have existed in the world for a long time. Therefore, philosophers play an essential role in their attempt to bring solutions to these human problems. Philosophy inquires into the deepest human problems that deal with their existence. Philosophical questions have existed since time immemorial and philosophers have attempted to come up with satisfactory answers. However, some questions have only been given tentative answers while there others that have remained without an answer until today. In proving the previous illustration that philosophy neither makes bread or cake, the mystery of this area of knowledge is built on its inability to answer questions such as the definition of truth, the purpose of life, and the distinction between right and wrong. However, despite all the mystery and confusion regarding philosophy, it would be vital to note some of its advantages ( http://www.annfammed.org ).

Through philosophy, human beings can think carefully and critically about some vital issues. It discourages people from just believing and offers a platform for thinking. It further sharpens an individual’s thinking skills enabling one to identify some of the strengths and weaknesses of a given position. One also gets the opportunity to form independent arguments about phenomena. In conclusion, the claim that philosophy neither bakes bread or cake builds on the fact that it is only a discipline that equips us with the required mental framework to solve human problems.
