The United States president’s role is very demanding. The American constitution provides several duties which the president manages as his major responsibilities. To electorate places much expectation on the president especially in this era of improved technology and modern society.

Chief executive

Millions of government employees have the president as their boss making important decisions on how federal laws will b implemented thereby choosing advisors and officials to help him run the executive. In his capacity as the chief executive, the president holds cabinet meetings, appoints the Central Intelligence Agency chief and other security chiefs.

Chief of state

As the chief of state, the president is required to inspire the American people being a national symbol. The president stands for the ideals and highest country values. To stamp his national symbol as the president, he makes a patriotic speech every Fourth day of July. In addition the president makes important appointments to state agencies.

Chief diplomat

Any country’s foreign policy determines the relationship such a country will have with other world countries. Consequently, the American president develops America’s foreign policy with assistance from advisors. The constitution charges the State Chief with appointing ambassadors and special envoys to various nations that have a positive relationship with the United States. The president also receives international diplomats and heads of states and governments from other nations.

Commander-in-chief 

The United States of America has an armed force that is directly answerable to the president. The president is therefore mandated by the constitution to be in charge of the forces among other duties, determining when to go to war, instructing troops to quell riots, and issuing orders to admirals and military generals.
