The definition of the theoretical framework is an integral part of a research. Theoretical framework refers to the interrelated set of ideas and beliefs followed to complete a study. The health belief model is a common theoretical framework in the medical research where it is used to determine people’s perception about various health issues (Tarkang, & Zotor, 2015). A review of two studies involving the use of health belief model will aid in highlighting the role of theoretical frameworks in research.

A theoretical framework has a significant influence on the research structure in various ways. The framework influences the formulation of research questions. For example, in a common research question in the two selected studies are the determination and evaluation of beliefs and attitude towards diseases (Santos et al., 2017). Besides, the theoretical framework helps to prove the significance of the research and establishment of the research gap in the introduction of study.

Additionally, the theoretical framework is the primary guidance for the selection of studies included in the literature review section. The literature review sections of studies based on the health belief model highlights the factors influencing the development of individual perception and attitude towards a health problem and strategies for altering these beliefs to achieve the intended health outcome (Tarkang, & Zotor, 2015). It is evident that an individual’s beliefs can lead to good or bad health results, and changing these perceptions are an involving and complex task.

Also, the theoretical framework affects the type of research design and methodology and data analysis procedures. Since attitude and belief is subjective information, the qualitative research design approach is used to complete the research (Tarkang, & Zotor, 2015). Moreover, the variables involved in such researches are beliefs and attitude. Following the nature of the design and methodology, thematic analysis is in turn used in the data analysis process and the findings outlined in the conclusion. Overall, it is clear that the theoretical framework affects all the parts of the research.
