Women from the Rashaayda Bedouins culture hold a responsibility as caregivers and homemakers. They are in charge of household affairs and as such, they make all decisions regarding this role in their families. For instance, they prepare all the meals, look after their children, collect firewood and weave cloths that are used to canvas tents for different weather conditions. They, therefore, construct and repair the tents where their family lives in. Women also milk animals and make butter out of it for family use. Once their husbands kill an animal, the women take the skin and tan it after which, they cut it to the correct size and sew it into a water container. This means that they are tasked with the responsibility of storing drinking water and other essential household necessities. They are also responsible for preparing special meals, known as Halawa during big ceremonies such as marriages.
Among the Rashaayda Bedouins, women are dominated by their husbands and as such, men are allowed to beat or divorce them if they fail to contribute to their chores as far as family affairs are concerned. Females are required to subservience at all times and as such, division of labor defined their roles as wives in the culture. They are required to pass on this expertise and knowledge to their daughters. It is imperative to note that even though the culture allows women to herd, feed and milk animals, they can only do so with small ones such as goat and sheep. The large ones like camels are handled by men. The Rashaaya Bedouins suppress women in their culture based on the traditional nature of the roles and responsibilities they are given.
