The program focusing on drug and alcohol testing is an important element in ensuring the safety mission is achieved in the transport industry (Revesz, 2017). Pilots, ship captains, truck drivers, pipeline controllers, locomotive engineers, bus drivers, airline mechanics as well as subway operators have a responsibility to ensure public safety and, therefore, should not allow drugs or alcohol to compromise their performance. Going with several researches conducted on the transport industry, the number of the accidents and crashes linked to the abuse of drug and alcohol has significantly reduced yet, the much more need to be done to reduce or eliminate the danger risk that is brought about the use of illegal drugs and alcohol.

The regulation helps in keeping the safety on the roads by ensuring that all the employees in the transport sector are free from drugs. The regulation directs for hefty fines and harsh legal penalties for individuals who go against the road safety rules. Employers should take their employees through vibrant training so that they can all understand both the professional and personal consequences that they pass through when they fail to comply with these regulations. The supervisors and the managers should also be given sufficient training for them to provide guidance to the other employees.

This regulation helps in promoting self-discipline in all the individuals working in transport sector so that they develop in their careers without losing track under the influence of drugs and alcohol (Cooper, 2015). Through this regulation, therefore, individuals in this sector can advance their professionalism to a much higher level. Also, the regulation evaluates various departments of the transport sector and seeks implementation of the recommendation gotten from the evaluation. From this evaluation, the loopholes in the transport sector would be identified, and measures of prevention worked upon. If the regulation were not there so many lives would have been lost on roads, on water and even through crashes. Besides, the transport sector would not be having a promising future since the users would be at liberty of abusing drugs rather than developing their careers.
