My perception when justice coincides with the Hippocratic Oath

In the justice system, death sentences administered through lethal injections are given on various crimes which in reality are justified to some extent, for instance, a person found to have committed gruesome murderous acts. It is justifiable for physicians to participate in these executions as long as the accused persons have been proved beyond doubt to be guilty of the crimes leveled against them. Since one of the core roles of a doctor is to minimize a person’s suffering even at the point of death and going by the various methods of execution present like hanging and through the firing squad, lethal injections look more humane by far.

My views on States requiring physician oversight when lethal injections are practiced in death penalty cases

The whole process of executions through legal injections requires a physician’s presence since their medical expertise is crucial to get the whole process right. Also, they provide consultation, monitor results, and administer appropriate drug doses. Due to several executions went wrong whereby several convicts executed never ceased breathing long after they were injected with paralyzing drugs such as potassium bolus making them experience suffocation and excruciating pain, the physician's presence is of great importance. Executions through the lethal injections are swift and minimize the convict’s suffering making their deaths even less painful, not forgetting it is a more humane method of execution compared to hanging or even through electrocution.

My views on the use of medicine by physicians to prematurely end the life of a patient at their request

In respect to the dignity of human life, deliberately ending another person’s life is unethical even at their request. Healthy person’s executions through medicinal drugs can be justified to some point, taking into account they are convicts who may have committed heinous crimes like murder, rape, and other in despicable acts. Persons who may be suffering from chronic diseases which they might have struggled for years to overcome but to no avail may decide to end their suffering by deciding to get lethal injections. In this regard, it may be understandable to some point considering the pain and suffering of the patient, financial aspect, and the chances of recovery were slim to none.
