In the video, Dorothea Orem narrates her Self-Care grand theory in nursing, and how she went about developing it. The reason why I chose this particular video is that I hold self-care in very high regard when it comes to the maintenance of health, both mental and physical. Most people usually have a lot of responsibilities in their daily lives to the extent that they forget to take care of their personal needs. I knew that watching this video could teach one about the whole framework of self-care and how to accomplish this goal amidst all the pressures of life.
While the act of self-care does not have a lot of immediate improvements in overall health, some acts of self-care like treating yourself to a healthy diet and exercising routines have an undying positive impact on both the physical and mental health of an individual. I believe that self-care is essential for all individuals as it results in relaxation, which defines, to a greater extent how strong a person can withstand or recover quickly from life’s stresses or severe healthcare conditions (Scott, 2019). People, who are feeling their best both mentally and emotionally, due to self-care, are both physically and emotionally healthier than those who do not practice any form of self-care.

I concur with Orem’s description of nursing as she describes nursing as an essential act of assisting human beings in providing and managing self-care to sustain or expand human functioning at their home levels of efficiency. Even though Orem acknowledges that nurses are very significant at in showing care to all patients, she highlights more on the fact that the chief caregiver should emaciate within someone, with help from physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers whenever essential. I concur with Orem on how she emphasizes on activities or practices which people should initiate and continue practicing them to maintain a healthy life and their well-being. She also talks about the understanding and perception of nursing by other stakeholders in the healthcare industry, including the patients. Orem says that patients and physicians have not fully understood nursing. However, she states that it is no one's fault since the doctors not only fascinated in pay attention when talked to about nursing but also they are interested in learning more about this field.
Although I concur with Orem’s theory, I think that her postulation that all people above eighteen years can take care of themselves is a little bit defective. She should consider people who do not understand the idea of self-care, such as illiterate people and those who are mentally ill people. Generally, this video is very educative and has a lot of wisdom and knowledge that can be valuable to both the public and nurses. Therefore, I would recommend another student to watch it, and I assure them it will help them understand more about the nursing field. Then the main reason I would share this video widely is because when individuals understand the significance of self-care and urged to exercise it, we will have a population that is happier and healthier which would assist in saving resources that could be redistributed in taking care others priority areas in the country.
I have learned a lot from Dorothea Orem, Self-Care Framework video, including the need for excellent communication between various groups of healthcare professionals as Orem, says that physicians and other individuals, in general, can only comprehend and value nursing if nurses talk to them about it. Now I now that the foundation of care for anyone should begin within someone. Physicians, nurses and other caregivers are only secondary personnel who should come to offer assistance to people if they are unable to take care of themselves, or when one needs a specialized form of care from healthcare specialists.
