The Social and Physical Environment

The Seattle metropolitan area provides myriads of opportunities for the residents due to the significant growth that has been experienced in the past years. The transport system includes major airports and highways that enable mass transit of the people. For instance, Seattle-Tacoma international airport, Renton Municipal Airport, and the Paine field offer air transport services. The interstates and routes are also a significant source of income due to a large number of individuals using these services. The metropolitan has diverse communities such as Christians, Buddhists, Hindu, and Muslims, and it also harbors different races. With an estimated population of almost 4 million people, the place has significant issues that should be the point of focus for the leadership. As a resident of the area, I spend most of my time with the youths as an initiative of enhancing the mission of a Behavior Change Communication Group (BCCG). Kings, Pierce and Snohomish are among the most populated counties in the state, and this creates substantial issues that could affect the population. For instance, the enlarging population creates a need for an elaborate waste disposal system. Similarly, there is a need to educate the community on the issues of pollution, drug abuse, and conservation of the environment. Thus

Most of the social amenities provide a haven where youths can interact with esteemed members of society as they engage in objective discourse on how they can improve their lives. Through an initiative, a nongovernmental organization has provided learning courses for youths to enable them to find different economic activities. It not only provides them with funds to pursue their dream, but it is also a scheme that teaches about environmental conservation. The statistics indicate that there has been a positive outcome as there has been a reduction in environmental pollution as the people are becoming responsible citizens. Continuance of such activities will have a positive impact on the physical and social environment of the place. For instance, immense pollution could lead to various diseases that will impact the wellness of society. Thus, I engage some of the youths in the initiative to clean the social areas, and this provides an opportunity for the engagement of the other people in the area.

During the mornings, I engage the organizations to strategize plans for improving the livelihoods of the youths. I scout through the area during the day, and I plan meetings with the youths in the evenings for some chores, including cleaning the environment. In other periods, I sensitize the public on the importance of proper waste disposal, and this has had a significant impact on the attitudes of the residents. The motivation of my involvement is the prevalent information about global warming, an increase in the illnesses related to the environment, and the degradation of marine life. Thus, I believe that I can make a change that will help the future generation irrespective of the magnitude.

In the course of creating change in the environment, I use various cleaning agents that protect the body against microbes. We also have to wear gloves and protective gear. Nevertheless, I focus on expounding on the need to eat a balanced diet, reduce wastage of food resources, and using water sparingly. I rarely use hair products as I believe that it could hurt environmental conservation as most of them are manufactured using chemicals. During my free time, I watch television and browse the internet via my laptop, but I am cautious about the disposal of these items when they are obsolete.

I believe that some of the chemicals used in food, hair products, and electronics could have a direct impact on an individual besides the environmental degradation that occurs. For instance, the improper application of hair products could lead to third-degree burns. Additionally, they could affect the pH level of soil, and this will affect the ecosystem.

I mostly engage the youths in physical activities such as games to release boredom and monotony after our sessions. For instance, we play football and other indoor sports such as table tennis. During this time, we interact with each other while brainstorming ideas that could have a positive impact on our mission.

I believe that physical exercises are vital to a human being, as this helps in burning excess calories that we consume. Notably, 1 in every 3 people in the United States is obese, while 2 out of 3 are overweight or obese. It is a worrying trend that could have a significant negative impact on the nation. Thus, the creation of such a tradition will have a positive effect on the health of the people.

It is my conviction that if I continue to create awareness and sensitize the population, there will be a high chance of improving the wellness of the society. In this context, I plan to engage government agencies and other non-governmental organizations to have a broader initiative that will transform the lives of people through behavior change. For instance, collaboration with communities to clean the environment will be useful in reducing the population. Additionally, advocating the use of renewable items such as packages of products will assist in the improvement of the environment. Subsequently, it will lead to a reduction in the number of people that are affected by the population.

I have noted that some studies have linked some illnesses to the environment, food consumed, and lifestyle of people. For example, numerous investigations have stated that some types of cancer are connected to the foods human beings eat, while other researchers suggest that obesity increases the chances of cancer. Although it is easy to disseminate information to the society about this issue, it is almost impossible to change the lifestyle and eating habits of people. Therefore, the eradication of some situations may take a long time.
