Generally, sociologists are interested in human interactions, especially how social associations impact the attitudes of individuals and the transformations and structure that characterizes societies. They focus their interests on determining how society impacts various individuals since social forces shape individuals’ experiences. The external forces that modify and define the personal experiences occur in the form of interpersonal relationships between acquaintances (Norgaard, 2018) . Thus, sociological imagination entails digressing from the usual routines through thinking and perceiving the normal life with fresh critical eyes.

Several suicide cases have been reported in my city, Brooklyn, New York. Therefore the residents have been acquainted with various symptoms that foretell and send suicide warning signs or suicidal thoughts. Some of the symptoms that would provoke the sensitivity of the Brooklyn residence include utterances concerning suicide such as “I’m going to kill myself,” individual trying to navigate ways he/she could end their lives, preferring solitary life by avoiding former companies, mood swings, and many others. Consequently, the closest acquaintance of these fellows’ takes a bold step discusses the issues, and advises them to seek medical attention ( Kendall, 2020) . The victims could also approach the closest friends by themselves and seek assistance before the thought could drive them into literal action.

Brooklyn city has various resources that could enhance suicide prevention. Some of the suicide prevention hotlines for Brooklyn includes comprehensive psychiatric emergency program, state psychiatric hospital and the related inpatient center, and many others. Nevertheless, from the sociological imagination the resources are not adequate to eradicate the suicide problem. Sociological imagination empowers a self-reflection whereby an individual can look at him/herself as in a mirror and question his being or point out the source of their distress. According to the proponent of the sociological imagination, individuals should stop focusing on themselves alone and perceive the wider landscape of the society ( Kendall, 2020) . This would help them deviate from putting numberless blame on their lives and overcome guilt that would lead them to committing suicide.
