Sociological imagination offers human beings a link between their personal lives and the social forces found in life. It involves thinking away from the conventional routines of life and looking them with a different perspective. It is also about visualizing things socially and how well they interact to influence each other. To gain a sociological imagination, a person must first come out of the situation and use alternative views to deal with issues. Sociological imagination is important because it enables individuals to relate what they experience in their daily lives to the local, national, and global situations that face them. Without employing social imagination in the lives of human beings, people are unable to identify the various social issues that affect them. They also face difficulties in determining the necessary changes required to deal with the matter.

It is important to appreciate that time period, or era in which a person is born determines a host of things in their lives. Time periods are defined by several factors that include technology, science innovation, politics, culture, and economy among others. Suppose I was born in the 1950s a period just after the World War, things would have been different. At that particular period, communication technology was still markedly underdeveloped as compared to now, and therefore sending and receiving messages would have been a major problem.

With no internet, my life would have been different because learning would have been extremely difficult and research would have been close to impossibility. Research in the field of science was still juvenile, and therefore there were no information and drugs about certain diseases. This would, therefore, mean that living in this era would be a major threat to the health of many people including me. Also, with regards to politics, democracy was still not fully developed, and this means that the many rights we enjoy today could not have been a possibility in that era.
