Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the conscientious use of current best evidence in making decisions about patient care (Sackett, 1997). Simply put, it is a clinical approach that searches relevant evidence in the administrative system and patient preferences of treatment to answer to a clinical question. The process allows the practitioner to assess the said areas and apply the results to answer to certain issues.

As a nurse working in the pediatric unit, it is important to study the pattern in the admission of premature infants into the nursery. You observe that recently the number of preterm babies born in the facility has been on the rise following the maximum occupation of incubators. With this knowledge in mind, you realize that the critical care has long-lasting effects on these children and their parents, both financially and mentally (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2011).

It becomes, therefore, critical to consider the factors during an infant’s critical care that predict devastating outcome a few months after the intensive care to identify children who are at higher risks before their discharge to implement target interventions.

The Technology Informatics Guiding Educational Reform dubbed The TIGER team was formed in 2004 following a health goal established by the then president of America, George Bush requiring all Americans to have Electronic Health Record within ten years. This announcement prompted a national conference by various stakeholders in the healthcare field to discuss the national health information technology infrastructure.

However, this meeting undermined the role of nursing in the said program, prompting a group of nurses who had attended the conference to come together as a team to ensure that nursing as a profession contributed expertise in the modelling of the health IT infrastructure. It was this movement that led to the formation of TIGER whose main aim was to contribute nursing expertise towards the realization of the health goal by the president (Lieber & Troseth, 2016).
