Social workers concentrate on promoting social justice and change in the society. Their work is centered on some core values which exemplify the profession. These values are embraced in the course of the profession and they act as a foundation of the unique purpose for which social work exists. Application of the values, nevertheless, varies depending on the specific purpose of these workers. The values which support the provision of services to immigrant populations, including those that are undocumented are, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, integrity, service and importance of human relationships. 

Social justice applies mostly in the context of vulnerable populations. Social work concentrates on forms of social injustice. In most cases, undocumented citizens do not have access to some essential services since they fear seeking them owing to the risk of deportation. Social workers, therefore, strive to ascertain access to services, resources and information to susceptible individuals, and ascertain equality is maintained (Assembly, 2008). Dignity and worth of the person is another key core value of social work. Social workers recognize the inherent worth of an individual. As a result, they treat every person in a respectful manner. Besides, they are attentive to individuals` culture and also seek to maintain ethnic diversity. They are, therefore, capable of being impartial when administering services to all individuals including those who lack documentation.

Social workers maintain integrity in every aspect of administering assistance to individuals. They are familiar with ethical principles which govern them and others. The honesty and responsibility of social workers enable them to administer services to vulnerable people on behalf of the organizations they work for. Service is another value of social work whereby the primary goal of the social worker is to address problems facing individuals. Social workers are only concerned on the assistance they offer to those in need without due consideration of their status within the society ( Assembly, 2008 ). Moreover, social workers possess the value of recognizing importance of human relationships. Their aim is to restore, enhance and maintain individuals` wellbeing. 

To sum it up, values of social work which hold a high regard for immigrant populations are, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, integrity, service and importance of human relationships. Social workers are aware on the critical role they are required to play within the society by offering assistance to individuals without discrimination. As a result, they participate actively in assisting vulnerable people with an aim of maintaining their dignity. The value of social work can, hence, not be undermined.
