Since the commencement of professional nursing, employers continued demanding better quality services from nurses to ensure gradual improvement in patient outcomes. Nursing education is one of the critical pillars of a progressive and reliable healthcare system. Employers today require nurses to have portfolios and include their teaching philosophy, expanded curriculum vitae, samples of publications and writings, and proof of competences.
The current paper seeks to review how professional nurses organize their portfolio, how to distribute portfolios to potential employers, and the questions to include in the portfolios.

Employers today require professional nurses to have portfolios with information such as teaching philosophy, expanded curriculum vitae, samples of publications and writings, and proof of competences for several reasons (Mason & Chaffee, 2013).
One of the primary reasons for these requirements is the escalating complexities in healthcare delivery and the new emerging trends in the industry. In turn, this has compelled employers to seek original competence documentation to enable them to provide better quality services and remain competitive or gain a competitive advantage in the market (Cherry & Jacob, 2016). The NLN Scope of practice is responsible for offering professional development and education to all students to prepare them to deliver high quality services that satisfy the needs of their employers (Aebersold & Tschannen, 2013).
My nursing portfolio will include a career summary and goals. I will explain myself as follows. I am a professional, competent, and versatile nursing faculty member with a focus on ensuring the delivery of high quality care for positive patient outcomes. In my experience, I have been a very supportive and proficient team player with diverse skills in the nursing profession. I endeavor to commit myself to lifelong learning and career development to enhance my professional skills and help improve the health outcomes of my employer. I plan to develop a theory that would help to improve the health outcomes of all the women.
I plan to include the following skills in my portfolio. They are personhood, environment, and health and illness; designing an expanded Professional Curriculum Vitae; and dissertation and Thesis, Original research, Case study, Trade journal article. Others include clinical judgment, ethical nursing practice, evaluation of care, care coordination, and planned nursing implementation.
The following marketable qualities will also be part of my portfolio. They are proficiency in computer-based delivery and nursing care, experience in home health and hospice, certification in perinatal in continuous education, and certification in intermediate fetal care.
I will also include my educational level that will consist of my Master of Science degree in nursing, specializing in healthcare education. I will also state that I actively participated in meetings at the university, developed a revised curriculum for maternal health programs, and ensured its implementation in the community.
I will use strategies such as printed copies, email versions, and social media platforms to distribute my portfolio. I will publish my portfolio and deliver it to potential employers through the mail. The mail will be my first delivery choice, as this will offer tangible proof of my skills. I will also send parts of my portfolio, such as the cover letter, a shortened version of my resume, and work samples through email. I will also create an online portfolio via social media platforms such as LinkedIn that would include basic facts in an understandable and fun way. I will include information about myself (who I am and what I do), a digital file of my recent resume, links to social media accounts to share with employers, and my contact information.
In conclusion, portfolios are vital pieces of information that explain to potential employers about the competency of a nurse. A portfolio includes a range of information such as career background and goals, educational background, and skills and competencies. Nurses should learn about how to organize their portfolios correctly and use different distribution channels such as mail, email, and social media to send portfolios to employers. It is crucial to include all the required information in the portfolio to prevent future disappointments.
