Several reasons informed my decision to watch the nursing theorist video by Madeleine Leininger. First, Leininger is a renowned theorist in the nursing profession with many years of experience. Before her death, she was a professor and displayed her wide range of knowledge in developing several concepts in the field of nursing. Furthermore, she has published many scholarly materials making her video something anyone would want to watch due to a guaranteed sense of reliability. Secondly, one of her achievements in the nursing profession was the development of the transcultural theory. She explored an area of nursing that many people had ignored despite its significance to the patients. Busher Betancourt (2016) noted that the transcultural theory is vital especially in nursing education as describes nurses as models of embracing the cultural needs of the patients in a clinical setting. Thirdly, the theory discussed in the video offers insights that are benefiting the nursing professional since it enhances their diversity and the ability to understand the needs of the patients better.
One of the areas where I agree with the theorist is regarding the role of the nurse in understanding the various cultural aspects of the patient. The nurse must be at the forefront in immersing himself or herself into the cultural aspects of the patient to guarantee holistic care that takes cognizance of vital patients' needs. I also agree with the theory as it illustrates that patients have different requirements which are majorly a function of their culture. As such, nurses must remain aware of these pertinent factors to avoid providing a type of care that tailored to the demands of the patient (Mallela, 2015). The third vital factor that is congruent with my personal philosophy is that the transcultural theory effectively addresses the need for diversity. It is through accepting the differences shaped by the culture that nurses can provide standard healthcare and thereby avoid the many disparities that people witness in the health system today. However, even though embracing a transcultural model can benefit the nurses, I disagree with the notion that it only comes with benefits. Some significant issues that could arise include use of too many resources and the fact that most nurses might find it difficult to either accept or acclimatize to a particular culture.

One of the things that surprised me in the video was the fact that part of what nurses are supposed to embrace in the transcultural philosophy includes some unorthodox beliefs about healing that patients have. In my understand, nurses should debunk such myths and ask the patients to focus on the conventional health care where diseases are treated through means approved by the World health organization and other world bodies. However, as a nurse who is qualified and understands the transcultural model, one must appreciate the beliefs of the patient including those which seem unconventional and use this as a basis of helping them to understand the role of the health system in providing care.
I would recommend this video for other students to watch especially those who have just begun their nursing studies because it would help them to understand the role of a nurse in the community setting. It would help them see that class work alone is not sufficient to qualify someone to be a good nurse. One must know the needs of the patients by exploring various cultures and thus using this as a platform to resolve the problems unique to them.
Lastly, the principal value that I have achieved from the video is the need for diversity. As nurses continue to appreciate the cultural demands of different people, they increasingly put themselves in a position to prevent health disparities affecting patients.
