Nursing as a profession facilitates improved health, and all the actions are geared towards preventing illnesses and promoting health. The profession, however, is unique because unlike other careers such as drivers and soldiers who only apply the specific training in their careers, nursing encompasses different segments of several jobs. For instance, nurses are teachers in that they teach patients how to take care of themselves, avoid harm and follow their medications (Papandrea, 2018). In addition, nurses are similar to law enforcers in that they fill in paperwork regarding the patients, they ask questions and assemble different clues to find out the patient's disease based on a test, a characteristic found in the police. Nurses are also social workers who spend most of their lives helping others and are primarily involved in a patient's life especially when they are in the hospital undergoing treatment (Papandrea, 2018). Similarly, the nurses can be compared to firefighters who put out flames because, in their careers, they are always dealing with highly stressful situation revolving around life and death.

Unlike other professionals who mostly work during the day for several hours for, nurses work in shifts that may at times extend even throughout the night for example during accidents or other emergencies like the outbreak of a disease. Nurses also teach patients about healthcare measures such as self-care during a disease outbreak, maintaining high levels of hygiene as well as prevention steps that they can use to avoid getting sick (Fritz, 2018). Nurses are also social in that they help the patient feel comfortable undergoing treatment by being friendly and offering to counsel them. Similarly, the nurses are also involved in research in that they take samples from patients and conduct tests to find out what ailing them. In a nutshell, nursing is inclusive of several aspects of various careers such as teaching, sociology, research, overtimes, and counseling which differentiates the profession from other professions.
