The United States healthcare system has considerable strengths and weaknesses. In spite of the numerous strengths, the healthcare system suffers from unequal resources distribution among the different population in addition to incomplete coverage of the citizens ( Camillo, 2016) . Also, the cost of care within the United States healthcare system is considerably high in comparison to other developed countries.

The high cost of care stands out as the single most significant weakness of the care system mostly due to the large population that is currently uninsured with the insured population facing continued increases in premiums as well as out-of-pocket costs ( Braunstein, 2018) . The high cost of care has impacted on the industry with the middle-income population being the most affected noting that they are accumulating credit card debts and exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses to pay for care. Also, the population, as shown by studies, often does not get the care they need despite the government spending more money per person in comparison to other countries.

One recommendation for overcoming the high cost of care is through working to achieve highest quality outcomes at the least cost. The strategy can entail departing form a healthcare system that is supply-driven to a patient-centered system ( Camillo, 2016) . As such, the fragmented system where local providers are offering a wide range of care services would be replaced with a system where specific conditions’ services are concentrated in health-delivery organizations.

The future of the health care system in the US will be characterized by technological advancement, where innovative mobile applications and wearable tracking devices. These advancements will work to provide and monitor patient-centered value-based healthcare provision ( Braunstein, 2018) . Further, the care system will incorporate the use of data which will impact on the care provision facilitating smarter diagnosis and treatment and promoting healthier behavior as well as enhancing research and development. Telemedicine will also impact on the healthcare system as a product of technological advancement allowing for the adoption of preventive medicine rather than emergency treatment.
