As a science, nursing entails the understanding and dissemination of vast knowledge resources. While this discipline is quite fulfilling, mental acuity is often a prerequisite, especially when it comes to the handling of various projects. A practicum project, for example, provides a unique window of opportunity to professionals seeking to obtain new organizational skills and to work with other gifted individuals in the same line of profession. Moreover, such projects accord new skills to the participants, thereby, resulting in proper cementation of necessary competencies, expected of a professional nursing practitioner. As such, during the course of nursing, individuals are required to undertake careful evaluation of their practicum projects to ascertain their validity and relevance to the scientific nursing world. In order to deliver quality work, the right knowledge and understanding are critical. Therefore, special considerationis normally placed on the AACN essentials and NLN competencies. These two standards serve as quality benchmarks of proper nursing practice.
As an essential, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing standard serves as a pathway to quality nursing and proper scholar undertakings. Its relevance to effective evaluation, guidance, and identification of practicum projects cannot be understated. Therefore, as a nurse, I envision using three AACN essentials to the best of my knowledge. These essentials include having to work holistically, the utilization of evidence-based practices and the use of clinical reasoning as a mode of standard. As such, these fundamentals will act as a guide and creator of a quality metric that will define the entire project (Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Nursing Initiative, 2016). Among progressive attributes I will apply in my project include true collaboration, skilled communication, meaningful recognition, skilled communication and true, authentic leadership. These fundamentals result in proper research practices, which effectively result in project evolutions. Additionally, using the National League for Nursing (NLN) competencies further augments project integrity. In my project, I envision to apply all NLN competencies and accreditation standards in all crucial project steps (Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Nursing Initiative, 2016). Through applying elements such as professional identity, the spirit of inquiry and nursing judgment from concepts learned in the course of nursing study, project success is inevitable.
