Title IX is a civil rights law that lawmakers passed in 1972 as part of the education amendment in the United States of America. It was enacted to ensure that no person was discriminated based on sex participation in any educational program or activity ( Druckman et al., 2018). Before establishment of the law, the nation admitted few women to colleges and scholarships given to boys. Besides, athletics and sports only reserved for males. In this case, the law was passed to ensure the USA eliminates sex-based discrimination, and both male and female students have equal rights in accessing education programs. The provision also outlines that sexual harassment and assault is a form of sex discrimination and a civil right matter. It seeks to ensure that the law benefits both male and female, and gender equality complies in all capacity. According to Baker (2019), one of the critical focus on the title ix was to ensure equal opportunities in athletics. It demonstrates equality in the allocation of athletic scholarships, facilities, financial aid, and tutoring opportunities to both male and female students.

Title Ix has made a significant impact in high school and colleges since it advocates for student’s protection through dear colleague letters. Besides, the law seeks to protect both the accuser and the one committing the harassing behavior. Under title ix, schools that fail to comply with can be penalized for violation and also funding from the government pulled. The civil rights law has significantly helped me as a student because it has created an environment that is free from any harassment and violence. Policies and procedures put in place have helped in reducing such crimes because their authorities put in place where I can freely report such incidents. Through it, there are increased opportunities in college sports and scholarships for women. Title ix has also made it possible for all gender to equally take up courses that were ones stereotyped for a specific gender.
