All organisms, including humans, sometimes undergo a state of deterioration in health, and the challenge may be in terms of damage , unbalanced, or contaminated organism. However, the healing process is essential to restoring the health status of the individual organism, especially in the human population. The process involves the restitution of tissues, structures, and the biological system, accompanied by the renewal of normal body functioning. Two types of the curative process include; alternative and traditional healing, and they are common in most parts of the world. In this case, alternative healing is different from traditional healing, and with my personal experience, there are areas of nursing that would benefit much from this type of healing.
The approaches in alternative healing are different from traditional curative methods. For instance, the traditional healing practices are imparted in medical institutes and applied in the hospitals by medical doctors. The traditional practices have been defined and perfected through research, clinical trials, and the application of health sciences. However, alternative methods are not frequently used by medical practitioners since they are not taught in medical institutions (Micozzi 2014). Alternative methods are holistic since the treatment is based on the person rather than concentrating on the symptoms as in traditional methods. I have a personal experience with alternative healing and attributed to faith healing, mind-body treatment, and herbal medicine. In this case, alternative healing would be significant in the areas of faith community nursing, rehabilitation treatment, and correctional nursing (Welte, Hahn, Büssing & Krummenauer 2017)).

Therefore, alternative healing is different from traditional medicine in that it is holistic since it concentrates on the individual rather than on the symptoms. Furthermore, this type of healing is rarely practised in medical institutions since it is not part of medical schools’ curricula. I have a personal experience with this type of healing, with my involvement in faith healing, and the mind body treatment. Areas of nursing comprising of correctional healing, substance abuse nursing, and faith community nursing would benefit most from this type of healing.
